Would like to ask seasoned PSLE parents here, which publisher is better for the 3-year series, SL Education or EPH? I believe the answer booklet is prepared by the publisher, rather than SEAB.

I bought the English one from SL Education last year, found several obvious errors in the Answer booklet.

For CL & HCL, I would recommend EPH.

1) There are explanations provided for the answers for various sections - even for MCQ Compre. E.g.:

Check out chen Laoshi website. There’s a list of past year composition topics. I find that it’s easier to write on the oral topics after discussion.

May i know if there is a way to help the child which is weaker in the 1st 2 sections of the HCL paper? （语文应用）One is close passage, the other one is editing wrong words.

Do we have to revise the primary 4-6 words in the back of textbooks for PSLE? is it only the 识写字 will be tested for HCL editing section？

Hi Reenie,

Of the 2 sections you mentioned, 语文应用 should be much easier - the student just have to understand the meaning of the phrases (similar to CL Paper 2's 1st 15 MCQ questions + Cloze passage). Constant revision (reading up from handbook a.k.a. 词语手册) would be sufficient.

For editing, besides understanding the meaning of the phrases, the student will have to know how to write them (i.e. there may be cases of student knowing what the correct answer should be but forgot how to write the Chinese character). Taking school's 听写 seriously and recapping on earlier chapter's 听写 - don't 学了新的忘旧的 (or doing extra 习字 practice) on your own will help the student retain their understanding of how to write the chinese characters.

Yes to your last 2 questions. Pri 4-6 syllabus words and phrases will be sufficient preparation (prioritize Pri 5 and 6's ones). The back of the textbook only provide 识读字 & 识写字 whereas handbook provides 识读词 & 识写词. The latter duo offer more targeted learning (in preparation for the editing section, vs. learning 字 only).
