I spend a few hours with my kids every day after work 😄 and also during the weekends. I have a maid and my mother lives with me, so I don't have to worry about housework.

Honestly, I didn’t know that PCF had such a good standard. Almost everyone I have spoken to has given negative feedback on it. My husband has friends who only sent the kids there and when they reached primary one, couldn’t read at all!

Had I know that there was such a good centre,I would have sent my kid there. Instead of spending more than twice what you are paying now. I am sure that a lot of parents will agree.

The whole idea why we send the kids to expensive schools like Pat’s Schoolhouse and Lorna Whiston is because we think that they do a much better job preparing the kids for p1.

Actually my husband feels that PCF Kindergartens are all right. He always says that in our days, we all come from PAP kindergartens, what is the big deal? Haha. We also toyed with the idea of sending my boy to PCF Kindergarten, and then supplementing with enrichment classes like Speech and drama and art class etc. But we decided that our working hours even in weekends are too unpredictible, so it's probably more 'convenient' to find a week-day school with the enrichment classes built inside. Having said that, I still enrolled my son in kindermusik during the weekend as he loves singing and dancing so much. I wanted to capture this window, as I am not sure how long it will last too 🙂

Actually, that’s what I did last time. Sent her to church kindergarten and then supplemented with phonics ( from the school ) and then sent her to Berries on Saturday. Actually, added up, is about the same as what I spend now at Faith.

My expenses are more now simply because I wanted to speed up her reading. Once I think she is fine, will stop. I think it is sufficient.

Of course, there is swimming added on because i want her to be water-safe.

Anyway, I think if you send to PCF alone is not good enuf because I don’t they are able to prepare the child well for p1. Also, tend to pick up a log of singlish there.

You are probably right 🙂 Anyway, it's quite a hassle to bring them to too many classes in the weekends. Especially I have another baby too 🙂 Sometimes when my husband has to work in the weekends, I bring my kids out for my older son's class, already very tiring 🙂

Yup. just ferrying her to swimming class is already a hassle for us. So we try to keep things as simple as possible. 😮

Guess PCF also feel the pressure to produce \"top student\" too...

My girls go to Nativity Church Kindergarten opposite Punggol Park (in Hougang actually) and I had once seen a letter posted on the school noticeboard, which was written by one of the Primary School principal to the Kindergarten principal, to praise the Kindergarten for giving good foundation to their top PSLE student when she was in pre-school!!! I heard of sec sch prin writing to pri sch prin when they have top O'Level student, but pre-school???!!! What's next, are we going to rank Pre-school too???

When I first saw my K2 girl's 听写list, I was so shocked to see words like 紧张, 担心 etc... I only learn these words in higher primary!!! Kids these days have to learn so much more than us during our times and I can't help feeling worried for my girls... Is there really a need to expose them to so much at such tender age???

Sometimes when my girls talk to me, I do not know if I should be impressed or worried!! I become more \"紧张\" and \"担心\" as P1 gets nearer...

Gosh man…In our grandmother’s time, becoming a parent was a simple and natural outcome of life and marriage.

These days, becoming a parent is so stressful. We don’t know how to strike a balance. If you don’t push, they may get left behind and that is bad for morale. If you push too hard, they may become unbalanced.

Anyway, have a friend who is teaching in a PCF kindergarten in Tampines. She is hired there as a language specialist to teach K2 children who don’t know how to read. She told me that indeed it is true that the PCF standard is not uniform across the island. A friend of my husband sent his daughter to PCF only and now that she is in p1, still cannot read so it has become very stressful.
