thanks @slmkhoo. DD1 is finding JC to be very competitive as everyone is working very hard and honestly, she doesnt find them to be 'more advance' vs the O level kids, so not sure if they really learn more.
Just to add my perspective - those O level kids in RJC are not just your avg-scoring O level kids. They are top tier, straight As O level kids with active CCA to match (5 pointers and below).

In classes offering RA, there are also O level kids who qualify. So not surprisingly if some of them are more advance than IP kids for certain subjects. Anyway my kid mentioned that in his class, nobody talks about nor cares which stream one comes from. In a class of around 25 students, they are a closely knitted bunch especially when they have to do PW as a group.

My observation is the same as yours - in Y5 some kids start to be driven and work really hard, as though some higher mortals flipped a switch and changed their mentality.

out of curiousity, are the syllabus / curriculum in RI and RGS Years 1 to 4 aligned? Do they take any common exams?
You should ask again, but in my daughter's day (now more than 5 yrs ago), there was no attempt to align the curriculum closely. Especially as RI had that last semester for the boys to do other stuff (I forget what that was called). But I think they did agree on a basic end-point for some subjects. I recall that they had a common exam in Y4 for Eng, Maths and Chem.

I believe it was mainly for the JC teachers to get a sense of what the students knew or didn't know (but I suppose there may have been some rivalry between the teachers of the 2 schools!) I don't think the girls cared about how they compared to the boys. At least my daughter didn't.

            Hi Parents,

When they use iPad in school they will be using school apple id, is my understanding correct. Any suggestions / advise how to restrict iPad usage in school. I feel my DD is playing online games / reading ebooks in school
            Thanks in advance.

My daughter was in school years ago, when they were using Macbooks, but I guess the situation is about the same. I think there is little you can do about school, and teachers don't have the time or energy to check every girl's screen. I just impressed on my daughter that every lesson missed because she wasn't paying attention would require much more time to catch up, and overall, paying attention in class was much more time-efficient. I don't know if she took me seriously, but she was coping OK and still have time for activities, so I expect she behaved reasonably well. You could try that argument on your daughter.

Let me try, not sure how effective it will be. Thanks

                  Hi Parents,

Usually in Year 1 apart from school activities, are the children able to handle additional classes for music / dance / instruments / sports. I’m in dilemma should my DD continue her dance n badminton class or do i stop it.
                  Thanks in advance.
