      ST report-

TTSH have stopped admiting new patients, in the wake of growing C-19 cluster

      https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/ttsh-stops-admitting-new-patients-in-wake-of-growing-covid-19-cluster
What is the implication of growing covid cluster? Havent they ring fenced and cast a wider net to test potentially infected pple?

It is not one or 2 days moving around I guess. Still consider ourselves lucky ba these clusters detected ‘early’.

I think they have cast a very wide net - including offering free tests to people who were merely in the same places as those during their infectious period (not just family, colleagues, etc), hence the long queues over the weekend. I hope, but don’t know, that the increase in cases is the result of this extended testing, and that all cases will be caught this way. We will know soon - in a few days, if the cluster stops growing, then they will have contained the spread. If not…

The latest one I’ve known is that C-virus is a seasonal flu disease that is rampant from December to April. I saw it in one of the vids, doctors are the one discussing in that vid.

I don't know if banning visitors from snacking/ la kopi alongside their loved ones in the ward would lower the risk.

Even if they don't remove their mask to consume food in the wards or grab a coffee downstairs, the virus would still stick to their bodies/belongings when they get home. Remember they would have sat on the chair in the ward, used the ward / lobby bathroom, touched lift buttons & hospital handrails, bought something from vending machine, during visitation.

You can't ban nurses from crossing to opposite malls, supermarkets and foodcourts to grab a bite on the way home via MRT after their shift. You also can't ban visitors from bringing outside food/beverages into the hospitals for their loved ones to eat. (You need to remove your mask to blow the nourishing soup cool before feeding your Ah Gong Ah Ma!) 😂

But perhaps they can advise students/staff working nearby not to patronise the hospital foodcourt & cafes.

                  https://www.hungrygowhere.com/search-results/tan+tock+seng+hospital/

Food deliverymen to/fro hospitals can be infected too/bring in the virus. https://www.mirrormedia.mg/story/20210128edi045/

                  https://www.foodpanda.sg/restaurant/new/x9zj/korean-cuisine-ttsh

Now even a nearby NNI doctor has been infected. Wondering about those LKC medical students now and a couple of SHN hotels in Novena...

                  :faint:

If you go into NCID, do you dare to take off your mask? If not, why you dare to do it in TTSH wards? Because you assume “it’s clean”? Then that’s complacency.

Wearing masks has been proven to be effective in preventing the transmission of Covid virus.

Can visitors enter the single NEP wards in NCID? From the videos posted by some Wuhan returnee last year, I saw her collecting her food and friends' purchases through a ''pigeon hole''.

Unlike the highly secured NCID ward, TTSH 9D could be an open normal, non-NEP ward that can accommodate 6 or 8 patients? There are so far 3 family members of 9D patients tested positive. I'm not sure if they had been ''complacent''. It could be something they had touched in the hospital, if they didn't remove their masks throughout the visit.

Before Covid-19, I was one of those who would eat&drink with the colleagues & relatives I visited. :nailbite: I also dined/waited in the foodcourts, fast-food restaurants and cafes within various hospitals.

During Covid-19 last year, I had to go to 3 private hospitals/clinics for diff relatives' specialist treatments. I have to admit I was ''complacent'' as I'd taken off my mask to drink milo, coffee, water from vending machines & water dispenser in the waiting lounge. I also ate at the hospital cafe. 😓 :yikes:

Hope no more family members of the HCWs or patients get infected in the coming weeks. :xedfingers:

Is it the ST journalists’ or MOH’s problem?

There seems to be some logical issues in the reporting.

Why I have an impression that the Filipino nurse was the index patient based on the reports? She only started having symptoms and tested positive on 27th Apr. Everything is “linked to the nurse cluster”

The nurse is unlikely to have passed the virus to another 89yo female patient (case 62717) who was discharged on 21st April right? This patient was subsequently tested to be positive.

How about another 57yo patient (who tested negative 1st time round) and was transferred to another ward who then subsequently infected his ward mate? From the chronology of events, shouldn’t the 57yo be the index patient?

More importantly, ST will usually report Singaporean or PR or the nationality of it’s a foreigner but the 57yo patient’s nationality was somehow not stated (or I could have missed it).

It is confirmed that the Filipino nurse contracted one of the Indian variant.

I recall in the ST that the nurse was referred to as the first "detected" case, not the index case.

The 57 yr-old is Singaporean. He showed symptoms the earliest, but there could be asymptomatic cases earlier than him in the cluster. So I guess they can’t definitively say that he is the index case. I’m not sure how they can determine the index case when there are asymptomatic cases.
