Hi Chen Lao Shi,
Can I ask if the HCL paper 2, the first comprehension, is there any change? Is it still taking evidence from the passage to support the title chosen? Thanks!!

If she takes Foundation Chinese, her AL score would be AL6 (at best) and AL8 (at worst).

If you are prepared to accept that, then I guess u can tell the teacher that u understand & accept the consequences. If I’m not wrong, the school has to make the recommendation. In P5, parent is still allowed to choose, but in P6 the parent does not get to choose - must follow school recommendation. -

Nope, there's no changes for HCL Paper 2 ever since this new format came in place in 2017.
Yes, it's basically a summarization of the plot (during which the student need to link/highlight the evidence/information from the plot to the key words in the chosen title. -
Hi Chen Lao Shi!
Thank you for the confirmation

Not sure if parents can request to opt for foundation Chinese if the student passes all the other 3 subjects but not Chinese.

From MOE webpage, it says :
If the student passes 3 or more subjects in P4 - he will be offered 4 standard subjects.
If the student passes 2 or less subjects in P4 - there are a few possible subject combi and foundation subjects may be offered.
The school should be able to advise u accordingly.

On a more positive note, students may find that they fare better in PSLE Chinese compared to their school exams.
I know of someone who was consistently scoring 40s in a typical neighbourhood primary school (non SAP, not those popular pri schools) and got a B in PSLE Chinese.
B is from 60 to 74 marks, translated to AL score - that could either be an AL5 (65-74) or AL6 (45-64).
For foundation Chinese, the emphasis is quite different from standard Chinese. (55% for oral and 30% for listening)
U can check out the exam format on SEAB.
