Was there before; even though skewed towards LKC, my ds accepted YLL at the very last day of deadline in teary eyes.

Yes, LKC TBL is interesting way of learning and support within small group. YLL CG grouping is very similar concept and change grouping very year.
Truth is 2 seniors of my DS is still in LKC (going into yr4 & 5 this years); after all the sparks settled, it is all about studying med, as is with YLL...
We were told (not sure if it is correct), LKC med faculty is kind of isolated within NTU.
Novena site is interesting but a distance away and travel time in between is kind of inconvenience.
YLL is consolidated within NUS which is a good thing.

The vibrant thing; probably won't there to feel it now, since covid-19 killed all orientation programs.
We felt it in 2019, YLL med-rag was so impressive, changed our thoughts about med-students.
Very diverse combination in cohort, heard med-faculty topped most sport events before covid, year after year.
Bigger cohort, therefore the current & future social connection will be bigger.

As I mostly meet med students from YLL, I cant share what LKC is like.
Though YLL dont gives the good feel and vibe compared to LKC at this selection point, I can see that YLL med-students
are more than capable to self-motivate and achieve what they set out to do in the med-course.

Frankly, we are skewed to YLL from the start , wife & I just didn't impose that thought to ds.
Seeing ds completing 2nd year and going into 3rd year in YLL...I will say, not going with the LKC was not a lost.

Think...be a big fish in a big pond (~150) or bigger pond (~300).

After weeks of thinking hard, my DS finally decided on NUS. Was a tough decision to let go of NTU as my DS really enjoys the TBL system. In the end, he feels that NUS would be a more holistic environment to grow in.

Totally agree with you that we should all let our DS/DD make the tough decision on their own since as future doctors, they would have to make many more tough choices down the road. All we can do is to support them with whatever choice they make in the end 👍🏼 Either way, most important thing is to enjoy and fulfill the most of whichever med sch they choose!

Now that your ds has decided; next right thing to do is accept the offer from NUS.
In so doing, the offer from NTU will be freed, the waitlisted will get the offer...making another happy med-student.
We took too long in our time, accepting on last day...come to think about it, quite not necessary on our part... :stupid:
Other in waitlist is in pray-mode...

Sorry for super late response but I just saw this and for the benefit of all doing BMAT next year, the cut off this year was similar to last , with the first section cut off at 4.9.
LKC was very strict on that ...
Doesn’t help even if the other sections for BMAT was very high cos I know of those with score of 7 in the second section failing to secure interview with LKC because one of the sections didn’t meet the min requirement. Also COP was 88.75 or 87.75. (IB min 43 if I’m not wrong). My friend’s child was very close (perfect scorer 90 points , BMAT slightly short) but didn’t get LKC interview despite using a pretty impressive ABAS.

I recall in Page 2 of the WL Notification Letter, it mentions that “Your acceptance of an admission offer from another degree programme will not affect your position on the Medicine Reserve list.”

My child and his classmate have double offers and both have decided on LKC Medicine after they spoke with seniors, and also senior doctors (friends & family) who teach at both schools. Personally I have no preference on either school, it’s the same MBBS (Singapore) that will stand all in good stead. Here’s sharing what they have learnt.

- Precisely bec LKC is a newer school it delivers innovation & progression in the curriculum & student teaching
- Very receptive to committing time & resources to initiatives & feedback, including many student-led ones
- Teaching pedagogy is superior ; Facilities for teaching & learning are “best in class” (quoting what they say)
- Strikes a good balance with both local SG teaching & UK via Imperial College (with really big names in the field) with opportunity for joint research projects with UK students :personally I like this for multi-dimensional exposure
- LKC is linked to National Healthcare Group wherein TTSH is a key teaching hospital (not the only one, but key). TTSH has been voted by students as amongst the best teaching hospitals by medical students in their clinical years (yr 3 - 5)
As a parent who’s only known of NUS Medicine (I was in NUS in the 90s!), I am happy to see youngsters having their own decision criteria. Anyway, both schools have such equally stringent admission criteria that we know either decision won’t be wrong.
Now it’s onwards to 5 years of very tough schooling ! Hope everyone’s kids have submitted their choices & to those on the wait list, all the best to you!

NUS has a long history and is a very established medical school, with a good reputation. Their teaching methods and facilities are definitely good and reliable, according to some doctors that I have spoken with, who graduated from there. They also told me and my dd that graduating from NUS medicine gives you more and wider connections, which is good for our children’s future career. Connections are important in helping the child find seniors to learn from and it helps with patient referrals too. (which is a practical consideration for a career as a doctor)
