The Delhi Chief Minister is at fault for trying to associate S’pore with a non-existent new variant BUT.... S’pore politicians may be trying too hard to sell the idea of vaccination to children. There are better ways to engage the community to encourage children to get vaccinated against covid-19

Covid 19 vaccination in Singapore is not compulsory. We are encouraged to be vaccinated to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

Yes, but we must be mindful that the whole wide world is reading our news. Hope the rest of the world doesn’t misinterpret, otherwise might just end up drawing the same conclusion like the Delhi Chief Minister

Vivian & MFA had alr responded weighed in.

The Singapore government is duty bound to officially response publicly and through diplomatic channel to the Indian government unless something is not right somewhere. I’m sure our govt will act swiftly to correct ignorant & baseless/brainless malicious remarks. That’s also our National defence.

Ya, we’ve been very kind with “South Asia”. If elsewhere in the world believe this malicious Indian Minister, then que sera sera, I see them just as ignorant.

Luckily there is no local variant (now). Think the vaccination is important that we now need to delay 2nd vacc in order to 'share' with younger people.

Yes, can't let this name stick to us, because it may affect our future ATBs and other upcoming MICE events. We need to shake this bad association off asap.

I also think our MOH should not dwell on this variant during their pressers cos foreign media might report something not in our favour. You don't want the headline to read, \"Singapore schools hit by B1617.2 variant\". People have associated this variant with those burning corpses and black fungus. Perhaps MOH can just park the breakdown some where as an Annex for interested people to go read themselves. 😓
                  https://mustsharenews.com/variant-from-india/

I do appreciate OYK for sharing quite a far bit on the vaccine supplies yesterday, though I think he should not go on to reveal too many stats to foreign media. Maybe I'm kiasu and don't want other people to know how much we have in our kitty, in case they make hue and cry that we an affluent nation should donate some to others, or we should not get it earlier than some others, bla3, not that we have excess vaccines like the US la.

I also wonder if that would jeopardise our dealings with the suppliers if we tell the world we've inoculated so many residents to date. Would they give priority to other needy countries instead?

I notice all the while GYK and LW do not reveal our daily vaccination rate (took almost a month to update the MOH website), our vaccine supply nos in the coming months, our daily vaccination capacity, our plan to hit herd immunity etc. Both of them have been rather discreet with the details, e.g. when the supplies are arriving, how much has arrived, how much we've paid for the vaccines, etc. I think that's part of our national security yah, whatever that means? Even CCS 2 days ago did not divulge the stats to foreign media. He merely said the delivery pace's slower than our vaccination rate/capacity, and assured the public we have enough for the whole population etc.

If you reveal too much too prematurely, if your supplies failed to arrive per your May, June, July schedule, then people might pull out old news to blame you. I don't know, but I see the TW MOH guy being attacked by media and residents for failing to fulfil promises of vaccine deliveries.

I think our media shld stop saying it is a south asia variant, jus named it as India variant like what the other countries are doing, to avoid unnecessary confusion.

Yes I agree with that. Have confidence in our government to contain the virus spread. On a side note, can I ask if anyone here has some ideas to keep the attention span of our children during Home base learning? My son’s attention span is rather short when he does HBL at home.
