How to increase the attention span of child when on Home base learning?

i am facing the same issue too. I tried to change the sleeping timing of my girl and it seems to help abit in extending her attention span. I also tried to separate my the other child away from her, to reduce distraction, for her to focus throughout the HBL.

And are they not focusing well during live Zoom sessions? Or during the time period that they are “supposed” to be doing the assignments quietly?

If you state the age of your child, it will help - it will be very different dealing with 7yo vs an 11yo.

Hello zac mummy, my son simply isn't focusing well every time he has to do homework. We recently tried out online tuition and surprisingly he could focus. But it's depending on the teacher too. The previous tutor couldn't seem to keep my son focused but the center we are at now is amazing at that. But, if you have tips for getting your child to focus on his own at home, that would be very much appreciated.

this is a common problem for this generation, specially for boys who are all visual creature, hardly keep constant comcentration. 1st parents have to confiscate the phone when child are sitting on lesson or doing homework, 2nd give child clear learning target within at a certain time. I agree with you. I feel relieved that I'm not the only mummy faces this problem. Thank you for the tips! I'll try that with my son! But yes, hubby and I believe rewards are very important. Maybe we ought to set clearer goals for our son as well...

Having been thru supervising kid’s HBL while I WFH, both last year and this year, looking back I think it all depends on the age of the child + their maturity level.

In P4 my son was not mature enough. I had to keep reminding him to stay on-task while doing homework and also during Zoom tuition. The kids were just messaging nonsense in the chat while the tutor was teaching.

In P5 my son is now suddenly lots more mature & responsible. He no longer needs me to remind him to focus. I still sit next to him while I’m WFH but I notice that he pays much better attention to whatever lesson is going on. Offline, he does his homework responsibly & independently even if I step out of the house for a few hours.

Maybe it’s an age thing, I dunno.

I'm trying to work around his attention span currently and it's effective for the time-being. His tutor also shared some tips with me and so far, it's been working really well! But yes, I totally understand the struggles of supervision. His past tutor had troubles handling my son because he kept playing with the zoom functions too.
