I was one of those who tried Bio at HCIC without doing Bio in upper sec - dropped it after 3 months for Econs lol 🙂

Some reasons why HCJC allows for Bio in Year 5, without prerequisite Sec Sch Bio is that
      - A level Bio syllabus is very different from upper Sec Bio
      - a lot of the combinations and special programmes in HCI upper sec do not allow students to read Bio. For example, you cannot read BSP, HP, or even Computing, with Bio.

I am not sure whether you can read Physics at H2 level if you didn't do Upper Sec / O level Physics - it didn''t occur to me to check out as Physics is compulsory at HCI (High School) upper sec.

Hi, yup, HCJC is generous ...[/quote]
Nothing against hc but I would think it is partly because 1) they make physics and chem compulsory in upper sec and 2) dis allow triple science if one chooses to be in the special programs

So if they don’t have this special exception of letting the student study bio in jc without having done bio in upper sec, they would be making the pool really small

I donno if it is an exception or whether it is historical - but right from our time (more than 25 years ago) this was already possible in HCJC and it wasn’t uncommon. In my triple Science HCJC class, there were 8 or 9 of us who did not do Bio in Sec School. I was the only one who dropped Bio after 3 months (and changed classes).

NYGH does not make Physics compulsory,I think.

So like my best friend likes to say “read the post carefully “ I mentioned partly because. :rotflmao:

Ok jokes aside, I get it, they have had this special thing since decades ago. And like you said, jc bio is different from upper sec bio. Hence not knowing upper sec bio has no impact on doing well in jc bio.

But still, historical or not, if they impose this prerequisite, they would really be cutting off many high caliber non bio students from HCl, no?

Hi how do I interpret the percentile range in the results tab in the ISP portal? Why do I see eg B grade but 80-100 percentile.whereas another subject A grade but 40-60?

                Can I make a guess?

B grade subject - Econs or GP?

                A grade subject - Maths?

Anyway, such data will be more realistic / meaningful after incorporating results from Block Test.

                    Hi parents,

For JC1 subj combi, can H2 Arts replace Economics as contrasting subject? Can 3H21H1 subjects to be : H2 Math, H2 Physics/Chemistry, H2 Arts, H1 GP?

You need to have four content subjects. GP is not a content subject and hence should not be included in this 3H21H1.

Your 3H2 can be Physics, Maths, Econs and your H1 subject can be Chemistry. In this case, yes, you can substitute H2 Econs with H2 Arts.

However, if your 3H2 comprise of Physics, Chemistry, Maths and your 1H1 is Econs, no, you cannot substitute your H1 Econs with H2 Arts. You will be considered as taking 4H2 (with H2 Arts) in this case, not 3H21H1.
