This is how mine looks like but I’m sure there are newer models as this is using the older fluorescent tubes. The newer LED emergency lighting looks great - smaller, brighter and utilizes less energy. -

But anyway, it was only a few hours at a time. I don't think we had any longer than 12 hrs, often about 2-3 hrs. Sitting in the dark - we went the old-fashioned way of telling stories, playing chanting/memory games (\"I went to market and bought...\" etc), singing songs, etc. In later years, the power outages became less frequent, and my younger daughter said she missed those evenings sitting in the dark - I think she missed having so much of our attention!floppy\" post_id=\"2025640\" time=\"1622358602\" user_id=\"97579:

I lived in a hot, high-humidity place (hotter and more humid than Singapore!), where we had fairly frequent power outages, often for several hours at a time. These are things I learnt for hot weather (different things would apply for power outages in winter):

Where we lived, power outages were almost always followed by water outages, so we would also have to fill all the pails and economise on water use, but that's another story.

Where I lived, power outages were so common that I have my own emergency lights, similar to the kind that cinemas and many places used, auto turn on when power is cut off (some better off neighbors had their own backup generator). As they can also be used as portable fluorescent lights, I have two of them shipped back to Singapore. Rarely used them these days but it did come in handy when I needed some localized lighting.
For portable water, I had those big bottles at home (similar to an office pantry) as where I lived, local water isn’t safe for consumption. In Singapore, I don’t think water is an issue, even if it is cut off for a couple of hours. You can always get portable / “mineral” water from supermarkets or convenience stores. Most supermarkets and convenience stores operate 24 hrs these days so I doubt it’s really an issue.
We didn't get a generator as it was expensive and noisy, and not very suitable if you don't live on the ground floor. We just checked that the rechargable lights were recharged periodically. -

.... Eligible students aged 18 and above as well as parents of children below 18 will progressively receive SMSes with a unique registration link, said the ministry.
Parents of students in graduating cohorts who do not receive the SMS by Jun 3 should contact their children’s school for assistance.
“Schools will also be reaching out to parents of students in mainstream primary and secondary schools separately with additional details on their vaccinations. In general, students who are in schools and the IHLs should receive their SMSes by the end of the second week of June,” the factsheet read.
SMS invites will only be sent to parents or guardians of children who are 12 years old as of Jun 1. Those whose 12th birthday falls after Jun 1 will be invited for vaccination at a later date, said MOE.
Parental or guardian consent is required for students below 18, as part of the booking process for the vaccination slots through the National Appointment System, said the ministry. Consent given via the system will be collected once and will apply for both doses of the vaccine.
Parents or guardians of students aged 13 and above do not need to accompany the child to the vaccination centre while children who are 12 years old and all students in special education schools must be accompanied by a parent or guardian....

I wonder what the cut-off is for students at IHLs? My daughter has completed her final year at NTU, but hasn’t actually graduated yet. I’m assuming she won’t be included with the "students"?

Thank you for sharing! I guess I’m “glad” we had our first power outage .. (albeit nerve racking and lasted 6 over hours) now we have a story to tell our grandchildren lol.
