Guess I'm not the only one. Normally I try to reserve my judgement but after trying the centre for a year, think it's time to search for another centre.

The standard is really dropping & my child has difficulty catching up with his peers. My child shared it's wasting his time there & the materials are not really helpful. Pace is slow & centre is lacking of manpower. If teacher is giving oral test outside the classroom, it's 'fun time' for the students. Materials from colour also become black & White.

Did not see lady boss for quite some time. Think she's not aware that the centre is going down soon. :?:

DS Chinese compositions have always been average but never above average in school. Recent school results seem to have worsen. However, he always has above average score in Xuelin since last year. There seems to be quite a gap in expectation between school and the centre. This is a strategy to motivate a student? Also, this year, we notice quite a difference in standards among the students in a class as there is no differentiation between higher Chinese and normal Chinese. Looks like time to make a decision... ...

Right or wrong choice, sigh... It's always so difficult to know in the beginning!

I have been searching around for a chinese tuition for my P4 girl for quite some time and also read the threads in this forum and finally decided to send her to Xuelin at the beginning of this year after considering both the good and not so good comments about all the well known centres and also through word of mouth feedback from friends.

The recent threads on Xuelin has now made me uneasy if I had sent my
girl to the right place. But to be fair, so far I have not encountered any of the negative opinions at this centres except that it is difficult to speak to their administrator at times.
Her teacher seems to be very dedicated and pro-active and had given me
detailed updates regarding her progress despite her being there for only 4 lessons. Also I have been constantly reviewing the tuition materials that she had been receiving and they seem to be of quite a high standard especially their compositions.
At this point in time, I will just keep an open mind and get my girl to feedback to me what she has learnt in class after each lesson and also see her SA1 result to see if I should pull her out.
Will monitor closely and share her progress with you all later. :rahrah:

I think the standard is getting worse. Jus went thru oral practice with my child. He can't read the words he learnt prior to joining Xue Lin. Also tried contacting lady boss twice who is now stationed at Katong. She did not even bother to reply even though I left my name & contact no. Now centre run by a young golden hair administrator who seems blur about everything.

My child also has a new teacher. She's too young & inexperienced. Now she's the student while the kids are her teacher. Kids are having fun. Shouting & talking to one another. After some discussion with my spouse, have decide to transfer my child after this term.

Lady boss: if u are reading the site, please review your teaching materials and system. There are many poor parents like me who are spending our hard earn money to pay your high charges yet did not get good returns. Worse we are wasting our time. :stupid:

Thank god I have not signed my daughter up for the holiday program.

Very tempted when I read the first few comments…

Wanted to sign my daughter for holiday program. Put our name at Han Language Centre at Katong but the program has to be cancelled due to lack of response. Sigh…

Oh no, I joined Xuelin for a holiday class some time back and found them all right. Did their standards drop so fast?

I guess it's also a question of fit. Could it be that different kids take to different coaching systems/tutor's style? Also, everyone's expectation is different.

Speaking only for myself, I'm quite happy for ds to continue in XL. Though he scored only around 90th percentile in his sch for CL SA1, past years' statistics showed that almost 20% of cohort will score A* for PSLE; I'll gladly accept that.

Thanks to information from this forum. I sent my son to Xue Lin last year when he wss in P2. Happened to chance upon his materials and found it’s quite interesting as they used interesting topics to let children learn new words.

This year, he is in P3. Xue Lin put him in Writing class. He seems quite all right and result is quite good. Before SA1, XL teacher alerted us to let him read through words to prepare for oral exam. Guess different children learn differently. If you have any concerns, can discuss with teacher what you think your child will learn best.

                    Cheers.

My son complains that he keeps getting different teachers. He is in P6. The materials looks ok but I am not happy with the way they changed the schedule. School just informed parents in late July that all term 4 classes for P6’s would be moved forward to be completed before PSLE which makes sense. However, this results in overlapping with term 3 classes and there are a number of classes we could not attend due to clashes in schedule. So far, a new administrator whom I have not seen before informed us that we still have to pay for the classes which my son could not attend (which is unreasonable since Sep, Oct and Nov classes are all crammed into Aug and Sep) but fortunately, the new class teacher will appeal to the principal. Will update everyone on this.
