Very strong in academic preparation for P1. Their teacher to pupil ratio is one of the best, 1 teacher to 7 pupils. They will teach English and Math at the child’s pace, if your child is fast, they will go on to teach more challenging concepts. However, do note they are rather worksheet based, parents who prefer a more creative approach to learning may not find them suitable and don’t expect a super nice environment like some of the preschools like Maple Bear, Odysessy. But if you are looking for a school that helps get your child ready for P1, can read and write relatively well, this is one of the best then.

PL used to be more relaxed but recently my sister whose daughters are there have started to see greater and greater emphasis on academics. Her eldest who is in the best class is bogged down with homework, weekends are also busy doing homework. She talked to the level head but it seems more parents like this emphasis so she just has to go with the flow.

I have a friend who swears by HCL, Bishan Branch. She tried Wang and Jiang before but her son really started to improve after joining HCL. Her son is the more playful kind, not so easily motivated. It could be Wang and Jiang classes are too draining and too much info overload which may not always be a good thing.

sharing edited oral examples...comparing across th, jec, wlc (limited to my knowledge), the most logical+well-organised; least redundant wordiness (- school notes) too.
      Thanks this is very helpful!

Just passed by their Katong V centre and took the below photo. It seems to say 'more than 66 A-star' instead. How much more don't know, but yes, agrees with Sean wife that it seems low considering that they have 7 branches now. But then when I counted the photos on the board and tally to their 2017 website results, the total is 66

      A-star indeed.

Oh dear I thought it was 66%..I think I saw wrongly then. 66 is too few but if they can only produce 66, why is their Bishan branch so popular? But asking around, their Bukit timah branch seems to have many classes not filled, Bishan meanwhile is very popular, is the founder mainly in Bishan?

Can I check if this is for the regular or creative writing class? What is the difference between the 2?
      Hi,

I used to send my kids purely for the normal class. However for this year due to some logistics issue, we could not make it for the regular class and started going for creative writing class. One key difference is in the cw class the teacher has more time to go through the compo and so I see that in my child's notes, he would have more detailed notes, she would get him to practise how to use the techniques. For example, create your own sentence using the dash, using figurative language. I could see that he could be more creative and could catch the hang of the techniques much faster. The teacher could really delve into the details of the compo.

In the regular class, his compo still improved but in a cw class, I think students have more time and exposure to develop their writing. If your child is strong in paper 2, I strongly recommend going for cw class. If your child needs help in both areas, what some parents do is send for both regular and cw class. But if you only have time for 1 class and your child is scoring around 70s for his grades and they are in upper pri, then I think need to go for regular class to boost up all the areas.

Hi everyone, I am looking for a primary school for my daughter which is not stressful and focus on holistic approach and not just academic results. It is not important the SAP or PSLE results. In the Marine Parade area or in Central I am new to this process but I heard there is a list of holistic school from MOE which focus less on academic results. Where can I find more info about that ? thanks for your guidance

In Marine Parade area, I hear from friends that Ngee Ann is a good choice, good balance between academics and holistic development.
