SJI Jnr of course because of the affiliation with ST. JOSEPH'S INSTITUTION.

            Hi,

I hope this is the right place to post. I'm outside 2km for both schools.
            SAJS - Phase 2A
            ACSJ - Phase 2B

I think ACS is stronger academically and I also get the impression that the teachers may be better. But it'll be harder for my son to get in. I don't know if I'm looking at it too narrowly to be focusing mainly on academics.

My son's very playful - are the teachers patient and dedicated? How is the traffic situation like during the rush hours for both schools?

Any views and advice is appreciated!
If I were you, I will definitely go for ACSJ which i feel is more reputable.

SJI Jnr, as it is a feeder school to SJI

Depends on what you want. HW is a SAP school, there is much emphasis on Chinese culture, chinese language. I don't think this is so in SJI Jnr. There is likely some element of catholicism - if you are a catholic, then no problem, if not then consider.

Also for SJI Jnr recall 2007, there was a furore when 18 out of 20 (?) kids in a class failed their PSLE prelims.

But to be fair, I think each school has their own thing. Heard not so flattering things about HW

tks for the feedback. ya, I know SJI jnr is affliated to SJI, thus the dilemma. I m staying within 2km to sji jnr and within 1km to HW. Both needs balloting though HW stands a higher chance.

Heard SJI Jnr’s not so good academically too (but gd in character building and most speaks good english?)and SJI’s school fees is quite steep as compared to other sec schs right?

Hquek, can share with me wat r the not so gd things u heard abt HW sch?
Actually SJI jnr is my 1st choice, however its safer to reg my boy in HW as chances r higher.Dun wana end up in Phase 2c supp…to other not so popular schs here. Sigh…

SJI Jr is one of four primary schools that feed into SJI, so although there is affiliation, your child will still need to do reasonably well in his PSLE to get into SJI. Just wanted to point that out! 😄

But, notwithstanding your chances at HW are better, my preference would be SJI Jr, as character-building stands high in my criteria! 😄

                        Hi

I was also in your delimma two years ago, choosing betw a SAP sch and SJIJ. In the end, we choose SJIJ. My initial fear of my son developing a dislike for chinese was unfounded. Almost half of my son’s classmates are non-Chinese but taking Chinese, and that explains why the school’s chinese may not be that good compared to a SAP school. The Chinese teacher there had a hard time, I believe! My boy also find his chinese teacher very caring and encouraging. Anyway, the mixed group of boys provide him with great exposure. If you are looking for a school that "push" the kids, then I think SJIJ is not one of them , which may explain why their academic results are ok only. If your child is not catholic, he can opt for some other subject.

                        Hope it helps…
