2 mths before expiry is ideal or latest 1-half months as u need time to process renewal approvals (1 day to 1 mth in cases of complication); yr helper will also need time to get transfer papers in event she prefers to change eyer (requires >30 days’ WP validity to apply transfers); insurance to cover new WP period (takes 1-2 weeks); and medical if due for next medical.
Tks Esteema for replying.
When is the appropriate time to tell the helper on our offer? She started work on 9 Sep 2019.
Do we tell her and get her to sign the new \"contract\" on the spot?
For the \"contract\" am drafting, besides the signatures of helper and employer, need to get the signature of a witness? can another family member be the witness?
Do we give her the cash of 15 days of leave and return airfare on the start of a new contract ie 9 Sep 2021?
Thank you.
If she is eventually not staying in SG, u’ll need yr buffer time to get a replacement. If u get a transfer helper than less hassle. If u’re getting no ex SG helpers, u need to buffer in quarantine period & training day. -

I’m sorry, I realized I’ve missed some of yr enquiries & hv not answered in detail.
Security Bond wld be part of yr FDW insurance. Even with our current helper who had been renewing her contract with us, we always pay that extra bit to incl runaway helper, just for peace of mind.
My suggestion is go online to NTUC INCOME & any other insurance companies offering FDW insurance covers & compare. I’m used to getting fr NTUC Income as it covers quite comprehensively w/o loaded costs. Also, coz when I used to work, I simply hv no time to collect her W/passport renewal if required. The reason why I mentioned new WP is that if yr helper’s passport is due, MOM will only provide in-principle approval if yr FDW’s passport have at least 6-mth validity, but as Eyers, u wld prefer to get their passport renewed for this renew service contract, o’wise it’s a double hassle. Ano point to note esp if u hv a Filipino helper, u’ll need more time (I forgotten if it’s 1 or 2 months for the Philippines passport processes). So, u don’t want to be caught short & hv to scramble.
As gor Indonesian helper, my own experience was u fortunate as I encountered an embassy officer who took a personal interests to getting the best for their citizens & insists i nortorize my empymt contract with their appointed lawyers before they’ll endorse her new passport, but I happen to meet the senior officer and explained my need to renew my helper’s WP, but her passport was short. He was very kind & interviewed my helper & allowed me to do my own new contract with terms clearly spelt & the passport was processed w/o the need to scramble or run to one of the law firms in town as I was taking time off fr work then.
So, do give enuf time for unforeseen circumstances or delays.
I wld as ice getting ready the new contract & pen in the new terms (new salary, day offs, home leave…) and sign quickly. In this covid period, helper’s can change their mind & oftentimes advices come fr external parties advising her helpers are short arriving due to covid & they shld seek much ‘higher’ pay. I’ve heard a recent case of an agency transferring a helper to my relative, but shortly arriving, she indicated that she wish to return home to marry in Nov & claimed the agency is aware. The agency simply avail ano change but all other costs rina all over again (MOM WP, medical, insurance, etc) which means a new set of expenses. We’re not sure if this was taught to her by agency (as the duration fits 6-mth fr May), but it certainly leave my relative in distress after paying slightly over $1K of fees and she wld not hv her Indo maid to help train a new helper with h’hold duties & her need to be supported correctly into her wheelchair when she needs to leave home for errands.
Even with our current helper, every transaction (agreed conversion of home leave based on her current salary; airfare; request for buying out her off-day) we always ensure written piece as well as bank transfer into her acct. MOM made it compulsory for all FDW to hold a bank acct and we leave no avenues for dispute.
Feel free to ask if there are further info I can share. -
Tks a lot ladies for replying.
I need to settle this project ASAP. -

I will screen print / snip it and paste the air-fare details in the written acknowledgement of the arrangement plus receipt of payment which is to be signed.
@ starlight
You can google online for latest airfare that u’ll normally send her on & concert that to cash. Show her the amt to avoid misu’stand’g & get a separate written agreement. I always bank i to acct & this averts any miscomm or legal tassle.
I also i wld put in an annex for details of job description. Best to follow clauses that incl disputes to be arbitrated in SG Courts n jurisdiction. State clearly her off-days & home-leave after 2-year term contract. As I’m aware many Filipinos wld take their country’s practice to accord annual leave which some push to SG eyer’s for annual home leave plus air-fare. I’m also aware, particularly for Filipinos, wld bargain for Public Holidays as additional rest/off-days. So be clear of yr intent. I do not need yo go to Eympt Agencies for renewals. We can lodge renewals application on our own via MOM online to renew helper’s contract. Very straightforward. Hope all goes smoothly for you.
The job scope is also translated into their native language and included in the agreement also as an appendix.
Learnt something new on the dispute clause. Thanks. -

My qn is price of return airfare to manila seems quite expensive under the current situation. I don't know what is the cheapest option.
It is quite a lump sum to fork out

For helperś insurance,
https://www.moneysmart.sg/maid-insurance
Really quite a lot to choose from with a variety of prices.
I know some like INCOME is more reputable. Anybody with lesser well known like FWD, MSIG etc ? -
In my draft of new contract, do I need to include some clauses on Early Termination of Contract?
What would be the situations/consequences if helper or employer terminates early?
The current contract by Employment Agency doesnt have this.
Thank you. -

Think airfare in general is not cheap now.

Reason why am including a screenshot of the ticket price is to avoid dispute that I short-change/under-pay the airfare.
All the details of the flight is captured in the simulated flight so the amount paid is fair and at arm's length. -

Am ok to no notice period so mutually agreed notice period is fine for me.

To me, if a situation of early termination happens, then it will likely to be due to some event or issue that has created great unhappiness. Then negotiation may be better. Of course, some people may feel otherwise and prefer some form of legal protection. -
ladies
My helper is renewing and not returning to Philippines. I am relieved.
I told her I would pay 15 days of leave plus return airfare. But she said I pay 15 days of leave plus one way airfare.
She said that for renewal
(1) if helper is returning home, employer pays return airfare
(2) if helper is not returning home, employer pays 15 days of leave plus one way airfare
If helper is not renewing or getting transfer, then maybe out of gd will, pay one way airfare.
Are the above the norm?
Thank you.
