Wow, that seems well thought out and will likely payoff in the end.

I have never seen only the difficult components tested but feel like math/science have usually been a fair mix of question type and difficulty. There’s only 30-50 marks vs. 100 but I think it tends to track reasonably well. The languages tend to ebb and flow a lot more, and I am always hesitant to draw too much of a conclusion either way. So far this year we do have a timed/marked paper for every component of EL except Oral although not all of them are in the WA calculation. I still feel like the EL Paper 2 is one of the hardest jumps from middle to upper primary. Definitely do some targeted practice on some of the sub-sections as time permits.

Yes the S&T is new and definitely some will be very tricky especially PSLE standard. I’m already going thru P6 SA1 papers S&T for practice since for languages more exposure is always better. Those S&T assessment books that I saw in Popular are quite lousy actually.

At least SA2 will be given AL grading scores. Will help in gauging how well DS/DD will do for PSLE.

Still have time to improve if the child ( and Parents) are motivated.
Improvement within AL5 to AL2/1 is not impossible within 6 to 8 months - it used to be the old A grade.
I think post July - need to get the kids to review previous year’s science/maths topics as they will be tested.
English and MT are a build up from previous years, so just need to focus on improving weakest areas.

P5 WA3 will be in mid-August. Term 3 resumes end-June. That means only 8 weeks for the school Math teacher to cram the 4 heavy topics of Decimals, Percentage, Average and Rate.

Those who have 1-1 tutor, can make use of these June holidays to pre-learn these topics.

Oh gosh, yes. All the best!

If it’s any consolation, DS will be “revising” along with your DD…his holiday homework is finishing up some SA1 revision papers that they school did not have time to make them do. Teacher will post answers in final week of hols for them to self-mark & hand up corrections.

I can imagine some naughty kids will just skip doing it and wait for the given answers, then copy it wholesale…heard stories of friends’ kids taking such shortcuts on SLS during FHBL. No wonder they can be “done” with work daily so fast.

Thanks. We fired up the machine again today. So far, have enjoyed 2.5 weeks of rest and doing other things of interest.

Has your school confirmed whether any in-person activities/classes next week yet? We are scheduled to have some lessons the second half of next week. I assume they will be in-person but I guess they could stick with zoom until school starts.

HBL takes a lot of discipline for all parties involved. I hope this batch (2022 PSLE) can have in-person classes the rest of the way (i.e. next 1.25-1.5 years) without interruption but have to monitor the public health situation...

No news at all about in-person STEAM holiday enrichment in school. I guess it’s low on their priority list.

The kids have already faced so many scale backs of so-called “less important” activities. Group CCAs, JSA, NSG…I guess they are just trying their best for the academic side of things (for PSLE)…the rest I suppose is not crucial in their eyes.

Hey parents! We are introducing a nationwide social initiative to help you gauge your child's relative standing.

We started this because we realised parents are not able to gauge how their child will perform against the cohort before the PSLE.

We offer free tests to see how your child is performing against the cohort. The more children who participate, the more accurate the relative results would be.

If you think this is an initiative that is worth participating in, you can find out more in the link below. (We will soon be releasing papers for more levels/subjects).

The new PSLE AL system grades one's child on the basis of his/her individual performance in subjects, regardless of how their peers have done. Your lead generation initiative is moving people away from MOE's intended objective.
