It's agonizing especially during this period where means to obtain information is limited.

Before COVID struck, you can still walk in (for some schools) and ask what's the number registered so far.

From other friends, some schools even have a board kept updated with the number of applicants in the different distance brackets (for the later phases).

I have other friends that actually stand guard outside the registration until the registration closes.

Edit 1: Which sometimes lead me to think whether this \"automation\" is necessarily good or beneficial?

I get it that MOE probably doesn't have a choice though due to the circumstances we are in.
From a policy point of view, I think this process has been good. Ultimately, the policy has to work for the lowest denominator.

No all people can come on the internet to check all the time, or afford the time to camp outside school. Hence, making people commit to their choice probably benefited many people as well as “second tier” schools because fewer people would want to risk it.

Such a pain indeed… praying for the best, be prepared for the worst… we are queuing for 2A2 Rosyth…. Last year was black swan even with unprecedented zero vacancy in this phase 🥲.

Nothing much we can do except to wait…

        Thanks for the update though.

Several months ago, https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=137&p=2017336#p2017344 that the situation for Rosyth Phase 2A2 doesn’t look good. I’m afraid that’s indeed going to be the case based on the case now. Rosyth has less seats for Phase 2A1 than last year.

If you combine Rosyth Phase 2A1 and 2A2 over the years, the average is around the ballpark of 80 to 100+ However, last year applicants for Phase 2A1 broke the 80+ barrier. It’s not surprising because the numbers for 2A1 have already been inching upwards over the years, which could suggest many alumni are now trying to get ahead by a phase instead of taking a chance for 2A2. That trend is likely to continue.

Hope you have your plan B worked out already.

Those in 2A2 are more likely to be siblings of students who have already graduated. The parents probably liked the school culture a lot, so want to send the younger child there too. Just guessing.

          Definitely.

Previously, there may be some alumni hoping to get thru without incurring fees paid to the association. However, since a few years ago (likely since the implementation of 40 reserved places), most old boys / girls realized that it’s better to cough up (if they are quite certain of choosing the school) than endure the uncertainty of Phase 2A2. Not just Rosyth, a number of schools have also seen their 2A1 numbers heading northwards.

I think most old boys and girls would have already signed up if they were really keen in the school...a small price to pay compared to moving house.

On the other hand, other than graduated siblings, there could also be sons / daughters of school staff who don't have an option of upgrading to 2A(1).

I’ve always believed that children of school staff should be upgraded to 2A1. But in any case, if they miss out on the seat I’m sure the school will be able to place them right at the top of the waitlist, they deserve it anyway (plus their kids would travel with them to school, same logic as phase 1 siblings travelling together).

I think kids of teachers should be move to Phase 1. If you have kids and have to turn up in school as a teacher before 7, it is only fair and right.

This balloting you mentioned for NYPS (SC > 2 km), is it for
                      phase

                      (2A1 or for 2A2) ?
