Exactly
Maybe our Govt should pressurize our elderly e.g. if anybody is not vaccinated and then they are hospitalised because of covid, then they have to pay their own hospitalisation bill. No subsidy. -

Maybe they can be brought on a free tour (or watch video of) what NCID patients on oxygen have to go though.

Don’t want to shake their life till covid shake them up. I don’t know if grandchildren (if these elderly have any), will help encourage them to go for it, esp if grandchildren are big enuf to accompany.

My own mum, on the other hand, has her own fixed way of thinking & we just have to let her be. Let some external parties do the persuasion. She still treats us as young kids while she is the big matriarch. -

My FIL same same as yr mum. Whatever we may say, he wldn’t listen. Bring in ano older (or he’ll dominate any conversation or debate with younger elderly) and FIL will be less acrimonious with respect. We’ve also ‘trained’ DS to chat up our elderly esp the stubborn ones & most times succeed in getting them to listen to him. FIL always look fwd to his visit coz he’ll show FIL how to navigate his hp (whatsapp, FB, YouTube, etc). I guess it helped coz he had been trained to engage elderlies since Pri sch days in visiting elderlies and doing ICT training with them. Till today, he’s still eager to participate in any programmes that engage elderlies in learning/relearning. Hope he continues to contribute his love for our elderly community. So, whatever it takes lah. Train our kids to bridge that communication gap with our elderlies if we hv difficulties getting to our elderlies. It work both ways to help our youngsters to share their kindness & love with neighbors in our community. -
Haha it’s the other way actually. My mum enjoys teaching her grandkids anything and everything. She has a lot of wisdom to share & scientific + nutrition + general knowledge facts so I always told my son to listen with open ears to what Grandma has to impart. She won’t like it if tables are turned and she’s made to seem like an ignoramus. I’ll let her cancer doctor tell her the medical reasons & persuade her.

My mom can be quite strong headed too..we had our tough time before..we siblings and parent have a group chat and chat almost everyday. Will just try tell her more nicely, most things can discuss. Correct each other more freely..all of us has come to an age liao, not always mom is correct and kids must listen.
Mom is much more accepting now. I could only imagine those elderly you gals described, tough job

My parents and in laws needed zero persuasion. They registered for vaccines on their own accord the minute it was open to them. Prior to Covid - each set of parents were travelling out of Singapore at least 5 times a year for holidays, and they also frequenty went to JB for day trips. They can’t wait to travel again. They also watched enough youtube videos of the tragedies in hospitals in US/Europe - enough to scare them.

Ya. We’ve to learn to be wise & flexible. Zac can learn good listening skills & turn yr mum’s teaching session into a persuasion lesson to go for her jab. Let Zac spot an opening opportunity in her sharing session to turn opportunity into reality for her. Oh, dear. Didn’t know she’s got cancer? Hope she overcomes her hurdle & jab early enuf. 🙏🏻

You’re very fortunate to hv very well-informed & cooperative parents. Sounds like they’re very savvy too! Good for you 👍🏻
