I understand how you feel about the sheer number of options available to the girls. But it is also good that they have so many opportunities to cater to their needs or to stretch their strengths further!
I feel more stress after attending the briefing, so many combi. My girl wanted triple science as she is more a science person and try not to take on additional humanities but is such a choice risky. Interest aside, if she doesnt do well in her IH, it will pull down her score. Should such be a consideration? For advance sciences, any parents has experience on the additional work load ?LeeTaiTai\" post_id=\"2031617\" time=\"1627093548\" user_id=\"17608:

I think the majority takes 8, if I remember what was communicated in the briefing last year and quite a number of them do take advanced subjects.
At this stage, unless they really know what they want to do, there could be some level of peer or senior influence in the selection. So attending that talk is important to get a better overall perspective.
There are quite a number of girls who choose to take triple Science with only IH. Whether it is a risk or not, that really depends on your DD's goal and aptitude. IH is not a difficult subject, especially if your DD keeps abreast of current affairs of Sg.
However, overall, workload is heavier compared to lower sec. Hours are also longer even without advanced subjects. I am not sure about Science but I know advanced Maths and advanced humanities do not have additional class hours. The girls are just expected to take harder exam papers.
Talking to seniors and teachers directly probably would be the best to get a gauge of workload.[/quote]Thank you so much for the insight. so tough being a student now :slapshead: -

Chemistry especially. I think having tuition for the worst 1-2 subjects is good as the worst subject’s score may pull down the overall percentage. I have to make sure both my girls meet the annual promo criteria.
Which subject? Tuition sounded really effective....lee_yl\" post_id=\"2030968\" time=\"1626607838\" user_id=\"17023:
DD1 started tuition right after CB, after last year’s 2 months of Zoom lessons. A few months after she started tuition, her results improved from C to A.
If one needs tuition for all subjects, confirm no time. But if one picks the worst 1 or 2 subjects to go for tuition, I think can squeeze out some time. I rather they go for tuition than spend time on social media.
Every child is unique, don’t have to care if your neighbor’s child does not need help, we have to see if ours need help. There are students who spiral downwards as it gets harder and harder and they become too demoralized to detest going to school -

Dd has friends who took double humanities and double sciences and i think those can be good choices too.
……….I am really relief to hear that its ok to go with just IH as even her teacher mentioned more students are taking on humanity subjects vs triple science.
Some may prefer having 2 humanity subjects so they can pick the one with a better grade for MSG computation.
When students progress to JC, they can only pick a maximum of 2 sciences (assuming they want to) and there is also a requirement to have a contrasting subject.
DD’s friend preferred physics to biology and was doing well in Geography, so she chose double sciences and double humanities in NYGH and continued taking them in JC. (PCMG combi, with Geography as the contrasting subject).
She did well.
For my dd, taking triple sciences gave her another 2 more years to explore all 3 sciences before she finally decides which 2 of them to continue in JC, while avoiding an additional humanity subject which she was neither interested in nor was good at. So I’m equally supportive of her choice.

Just realised it no longer specifically states that u need a min of B3 for Chemistry /Physics/ IM2 to take the respective subjects at H2 level?
For H2 biology - students who did not take Sec 4 bio must have at least a B3 in chemistry -

Sorry, can I hijack this discussion? What is the minimum requirement for a student to be allowed to take 4 H2 subjects instead of 3 H2 and 1H1? Do they specify a min MSG?

What is SSS ? What does it cover? DD says only by teacher selection but if kids got the need to can raise hand ?
-
SSS is remedial, mainly for weaker students who fail or barely pass the subject. I don’t think any other students can raise their hands for it unless they feel like they can’t cope with the subject?
-
Oic…My dd didnt do well for one of the humanities, the teacher did say in email those who want can ask for it. She mus have falls in between the range as she is not strong too. But i don dare ask her as she seem resistant. I thought its always good of there is some remedial then esp when she doesnt have tuition for the subject. Guess it can be sensitive to insist…

Yeah agree. Let them tell us what they need. I thought SSS is usually for maths sci or Chinese. I didn't know they have that for every subject.
