NOW, with new changes, do you think parents will splurge money to move near top schools to try out for the 2C chances? Or trends going to stay similar like previous years except less competition for 2C?

There will never be less competition for 2C.

I would hypothesize that the competition for 2C may have in fact gotten worst, not better. The headline (20 to 40) doesn’t really move the needle by very much. The non-headline change, on the other hand, has the potential of upending every change.

I’m referring to the change in how they define 1km. Would really need to compare an old map vs a new map to be precise. However, if based on a “point vs perimeter” argument, for any school, I’m expecting at least 10% increase in the number of “1 km-er”. That would negate any gain from 20 extra places and potentially make things worst.

Did the old map include the resale HDBs at Toh Yi? Becos the new map does.

HDB rental is cheaper than condo rental I presume (not very sure since Toh Yi is considered exp for HDB while the glut of condos along Bukit Timah Road provides tenants with more bargaining power).

Previously Toh Yi was not <1km, so now it's definitely more affordable.

If you look at Pei Hwa balloting history, it seems less competitive than MGS so higher chance if you want to bet on 2C. But of course, depends what kind of school culture you like - both are Christian but different domination - and Pei Hwa has stronger focus on Chinese language and culture, MGS is stronger in English.

No one would buy a HDB just for a ballot chance. HDB minimum occupation period is 5 years before you can re-sell. That’s too long a lock-in period for a lucky draw ticket.

Both MGS and Pei Hwa need to ballot <1km for 2C, so that doesn’t give anyone double choice even if you rent within 1km of both. It still gives you only 1 choice. Unless someone is a little crazy and want to send their son to Pei Hwa but daughter to MGS. Both may end up in BTPS if fail the ballot btw.
