Policy makers no fault? We have had hawker centre clusters (few times!) before but keep repeating as the systemic causes were not identified and rectified. The old folks are the PG and MG whose votes matter a lot.

I think a lot of them need to take responsibility for their own safety. The authorities can only do so much - they can't watch every one of them and remind them to wear their masks properly (the main problem, I believe), or crowd near other people, or talk to people while unmasked. If they close hawker centres and markets to the elderly, there will be even more hardship to the low-income elderly. The safest way to stop transmission to the elderly is to ban them from leaving their homes, and limit the no. of visitors very strictly (i.e. circuit breaker, but only for the elderly). It’ll be difficult for those elderly trying to make a living (there’s this couple at West Coast mkt selling fishballs & yong tao hu who hv been working there for many years & I’ve seen his eyes grow cataracts & hands all white & puffy. Least I can do tho my family do t really take as much fishballs these days) & those who hv no family members to help them buy food. Last year, saw some elderlies in their 80s/90s still going out to pkt food.

S’times I wish our community can organize neigborhood grocery grpbuys to help them (like those in China when we were in China during SARS days, they’re very strict with movements out of community to contain the virus & ppl report in/out with community watchgrp). But here in SG, I met an elderly PRC uncle who refused to make up & everytime I highlight to him, he wld laughing say he forgot tt day. Really! Everyday I can catch him not wearing masks out. Why? He’s probably feeling there’s no communist out to catch him for flouting safety regulations. Wld he hv done this if he’s now in China?

Indeed we’ve to take personal responsibilities & help gently remind ppl ard us. I often feel for our Distancing Ambassadors as not an easy job.

If we hv to get back to CB, maybe can contain Delta better since current vaccine not a full solution, but hard to balance & help keep livelihoods. This covid rack havoc to all our lives worldwide.

Actually, our (secondary) school is already conducting lessons somewhat in that manner - hybrid (= onsite in-person lesson in the classroom, also streamed live, plus recorded too), but not bcos of very worry parents 😅, usually bcos some kids were on sick leave (caught a cold etcetera)[/quote]

If MOE really wants to do it, they can get the central textbook/curriculum writing team to record lecture-style videos/problem sum tutorials for every chapter of all the textbooks. It’s just an extension of the material anyway.


It can be used for kids who missed lessons to catch up, and also for revision of the kids want to. Put them in SLS. Currently the shared material is generated by individual schools.

Then at least they can say that the kids are not missing out on “learning” the necessary lessons by staying at home. Like how some 3rd world countries had to screen their school lessons on TV channels for the kids to watch at home. Whether or not the kids actually absorb anything in this one-way non-interactive style is another matter.

The virus cannot control we can understand.. but if want parents to let go their kids even though they could see the consequences..how are we expect the parents to live if something bad really happened?

HBL not effective. Watch video clips… For zoom meeting, one subject maybe once or twice a week and only half an hour. More for teacher to check on the kid. Definitely affect learning. For tuition centre, the online lesson are full teaching just that it is carried out online.

Maybe MOE can centralise the subject videos so that teacher can save time on preparing the videos. They can then have more live online lessons with students.

The 4th term will have 7 non school days for primary students, lesser time for teachers to teach.

My own experience, of course the diff is I m a very matured person. I was among the first ones to raise hand says want face to face lesson at start of covid…but along the way I tried 1 subject using recording and I just loved it… can rewind and can record practically every words.

Not sure how exactly centralised subj videos work…but just imagine it is a centralized recorded subject lesson delivery…meaning whole Spore kids will use same one. That’s a good idea!

Like tuition hybrid type…a good idea…never tried never know.

Perhaps we could have those or something similar as an options. Covid looks like will stay. More discruptions probably will be expected…covid itself already causing fatigue. Let’s eliminate those more unnecessary stress.

Uh huh. Just last week, somebody said they were looking into alternative ways of testing the primary school and younger kids, Eg. via breathalyzer type of test kit, or oral swabs.

Now? Don’t care anymore.
