Local media should do their part by diverting people's attention away from those daily 4D nos, new clusters, etc. I don't see developed countries reporting so actively and loudly like us.

If you just duly update your MOH website (and inform WHO our daily nos), that's good enough. As the saying goes, out of sight, out of mind. Make people forget about the nos so we can be less obsessed every night. Every midnight, a lot of people are in eager anticipation of the latest magic no. We need to collectively wean ourselves off such mundane news.

Why bother? For unvaccinated people with comorbidities, they won't have nABs to defend the virus for too long, and moreover 生老病死 人之常情. Juxtapose those Covid deaths with other dengue/flu deaths so people will see it's no big deal.

Orchard Road shopping malls were full house last night. There were so many pedestrians walking along Orchard Road. Long queues outside restaurants as families were celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival. I had to wait for an hour to get a table. Inside the restaurant, I could see many grey-haired active agers dining with their adult children.

I don't know if the increase is due to the Home Recovery programme that has just been extended to persons up to 69yo. It is a big incentive for us to dine-out and shop. There's no inconvenience to us now because we feel more at ease and safe isolating in the comfort of our own house. Moreover, fully vaccinated only need to isolate for roughly 7-10 days and if tests show negative or low viral load (i.e. still technically positive), we can be discharged earlier than what was required.
To be honest i think the vocal ones are in the minority. You know, the ones who frequent hardwarezone and Straits Times Facebook. And most likely to be single adult males in theirs 20s and 30s.

They feed on the hysteria and keep demanding lockdowns and HBL. Parents like us with family and work commitments simply cannot afford constant disruptions to our lives. We just have to soldier on to this endemic living.

A year ago, none were vaccinated and hence we had many cases.

Now we hv more than 80% of population fully vaccinated, we didnt see any improvement but hit 1k new cases.
The blame is on delta variant which is super transmissible etc

        What is the plan now?
The day when daily new cases crossed 1k arrived. Where are we heading?

What’s still unknown is what’s the plan when we really hit 3200 new cases a day?

MOH didn't explain how the number went past 1000 a day.

Is a very huge jump, many thought under control ...
The MTF has said many times that the virus will become endemic (Cambridge dictionary: regularly found and very common among a particular group or in a particular area). It is impossible that the cases should stay under 1000 when restrictions are relaxed, and probably will increase vastly. This doesn't mean that it is out of control - it is expected. The important thing is that the no. of seriously ill stay low; the total no. of cases is not important. Yes, the total no. of cases will influence the no. of seriously ill, but it seems that the increase in the no. seriously ill is not rising as fast as the total no. That shows that the situation is not of concern.

Cannot compare like that lar. Last year I was in fact genuinely worried because if kena COVID higher risk of serious symptoms. But now I am fully vaccinated and also after reading from Facebook personal experiences of a few friends who contracted COVID overseas and recovered easily because they are vaccinated, I actually am mentally prepared to eventually contract COVID.

haha... not a valid comparision ?
Since so many are fully vaccinated and expect mild symptoms if infected, then why we are bothered with 1k or even more new cases? All the more, life continues ie open up more to resume economy...

That’s why they are mulling if vaccination should be made mandatory.

But I guess from the policy-making angle, they prefer to be very cautious as this is uncharted waters to them (and to the world). So I will be patient a while longer. If, as is expected, the no. of seriously ill will not be too great, it is only a matter of time when we will stop bothering how many new cases there are but only watch the no. of seriously ill. And if greater immunity is built up across the vaccinated majority, even the no. of seriously ill is likely to decrease. (Experts now say that if a vaccinated person catched Covid, it boosts their immunity, so having more cases may be a positive for the nation.)

Humans may not be logical at all times.

We know all living things grow old and die. When our loved ones die, we feel the pain from the eternal separation.
But we know all living things will die.

For the covid situation, we know the majority being fully vaccinated, if infected, most likely would have mild symptoms and possibly recover a few days ago, somehow, when we read so many new infected cases, we still feel the fear of unknown, anxiety, and ponder if we are heading the right direction.
But we know covid will stay and we have to live with it.

I am still waiting for Singapore to get over this anal retentive view that getting infected with Covid by a fully vaccinated tourist, visitor or someone from overseas is somehow a bigger deal than getting infected by a local.

Isn't this the basis upon which we quarantine arrivals and require pre-departure and on-arrival PCR tests? 🤷

Don't understand why we even bother with things like PCR tests, quarantine or SHN and \"green lanes\" blah blah for fully vaccinated arrivals from countries with high vaccination rates and infections rates comparable to or lower than ours.
