think that in the past HCI made it compulsory to do Physics for Upper Sec 3 and 4. If the boys' side made it compulsory, they must think it's important!

It's probably the mindset on boys being good at physics and also suitable for future engineering career, that's why the school made that decision. Not sure if it applies to NYGH.

No NYGH only made chemistry compulsory cos it open more doors in university.

Would like to seek some advice here. My daughter has a CO to NYGH for sports. She was also offered CO by two other IP schools. We are inclined to send her to NYGH but am concerned that she may not be able to match up to the academic standards of peers around her. She typically scores 80 to 95 for her subjects and prelim score was adds AL10. Does anyone here has experience of having your DD who entered through DSA sports, and advice? Would NYGH open a sports class for these students?

Congrats on the CO. If your daughter's average has been consistently around 85 then I think should not be an issue coping. For the past few years, there were no sports class per se but there were 2 classes where there were more sports people. I ap don't want to sugar coat. It is quite true most of the O level class peeps were from these 2 classes. Based on your girl profile I don't think is an issue coping for her.

In my DD's batch (2019 Sec 1), no sports classes. They just group those with same sports in 1 to 2 classes. My understanding is to aid logistic so that when the girls have to miss lessons due to competition, easier for teachers to follow up with the girls.

It is hard to say whether your DD will do well in nygh just based on her marks. I think more importantly, is to see what kind of learner she is. Is she an independent learner? Or she relies heavily on parent/tuition to get those scores? Is she good at time management? Does she have strong self discipline? All these will be important considerations.

ESIS is a scholarship given by the Sg govt for Singaporean students to offset the cost of independent school fees.
It's $200/ month for 4 yrs (O-level track) or 6 yrs (IP track). It's automatically deducted by the school, so you just pay the remainder of the school fees.

No need to apply; it's automatically given to the top 1/3 of Singaporean students who enter independent schools. In previous years, the approx cut-off point to attain this scholarship is around 261-262.

You can also apply for it for Sec3 or JC1 if missed the cut during PSLE.

[/quote]To add on, for additional info, my 3 girls went to nygh and coped fine. My eldest dsa via sports and had training up to 4-5× a week. She did well for psle too. She was placed in a regular class and no issues with her 4 years in nygh , no tuition too and no need to attend supp class or risk of failing. Her P6 sch results hover around 85 on average but she's from a popular pri sch.

Hi all, need advise on NYGH. What is the typical school time for this school? How is the culture for this school? People has been telling me not to go elite school cos due to the status comparison, is that true? Thanks
