IMO, hard or easy is not going to eliminate balloting under the new AL system. If the papers are hard, a school that is normally AL6 may ballot at AL7. Conversely, if the papers are easy the same school may ballot at AL5. However, there is likely to be some balloting in all three scenarios.

I have no idea if the papers were easy or hard as I didn't take them nor do I have a single kid that took both of them (this year and last year). I would just add that last year everyone thought the papers were easy but the simulated AL COPs were basically what people expected (IP AL6-AL8/9, no AL5s). So maybe not as many people score as high as perceived or the papers weren't as easy as every kid thought.

Obviously, there is no point to have a paper where every question is 1+1 = 2 (everyone gets 100) or conversely the A Level F Math Paper (most of the cohort gets 0). Last year the papers seem to produce a reasonable distribution of scores and reading all of the comments taken together that is likely the case again this year.

Congrats to those who are finished. Good luck to those who have HMT tomorrow.
Not everyone can get into IP. Don't worry if you can't. I comment to this particular post because it states that most get 0 for F Math A Level. I didn't know that. My Express Stream kid - well below IP level - attempted the 2018 Victoria School F Math Preliminary Exam and got 17% for paper 1 and 68% for paper 2. He took it at the start of Sec 2. Parents who don't get their kids into the so-called top 4 schools should take a chill pill. Kids learn at different rates. My son struggled with Maths in primary school in P1. Never got 90% for it in P5 and 6. There's always a huge room for improvement. They will learn when they want to. And he's learnt a valuable lesson - he knows how it feels to fail and come through it on the other side.

Hi anyone knows the answer for MCQ question with one of the plant's leaves tied inside a small plastic bag?

What is the level of oxygen inside the bag after 2 hours? (Answers in graph format)

        a) increasing /
        b) decreasing \\
        c) increasing then decreasing /\\
        d) stays constant (straight horizontal line on graph) ----
Increasing then decreasing. The carbon dioxide in the bag will be used for photosynthesis until no carbon dioxide left then oxygen produced during photosynthesis will be used for respiration until more carbon dioxide is available for photosynthesis, repeating the cycle over and over again

Sorry, I am a first time PSLE parent. May I know when this information on Esis score will be released?
It will be indicated in the PSLE results slip of Singaporean students who are in the top one-third of the total number of Secondary 1 students that qualify for independent schools admission.

For parents wondering whether his/her DC can qualify for RI / RGS / NYGS / HCI, the Edusave Scholarships for Independent Schools (ESIS) will be a good reference point. ESIS is offered to top one-third students who are eligible for Independent Schools. In past years under T-score scheme, the cut-off for ESIS is often very close to the COP for these 4 top schools.

I think once we \"lock down\" the COP for the top 4 schools, we can add incremental AL points to other schools based on the 2020 COP published by MOE, e.g. SCGS COP will be ESIS cut-off + 2 (because COP of RI & RGS is 6 while that of SCGS is 8 in 2020). This could be a possible methodology to make some sense from the black box.

Let's share information on the lowest ESIS score in this forum on PSLE results day.

ESIS = AL6, top 3% of cohort, this is equivalent of $200 per month (school fee offset) until JC2, 6 years in total, $14400 in total.

This makes the students ineligible for normal edusave awards and please note ESIS is just a school fee offset because independent schools' fee is extraordinary high, ~$250 to ~$400.

ESIS =AL6 is about right and the lowest possible T-score equivalent for AL6 is around 259 to 261. Which mean vast majority student within AL6 band will score above 261.

              Sarah_2021,

It seems like most Primary 6 kids have finished their not very pleasant experience with PSLE, so they just leave their hyped-up parents to wax lyrical about what COULD have been.

Only 1 day remain for those unfortunate souls who have to take higher mother tongue. For the rest of the cohort, you have more than a month of uninterrupted time for yourself to sit in front of that Xbox. You deserved that. Enjoy! But it does get boring after a while… so maybe do a bit of reading to find out what’s in store for you in Secondary school.

My personal take is that MOE will be sensitive not to shrink the ESIS pool under the new AL scheme, i.e. more students will qualify for ESIS.

This means, whereas all ESIS eligible students will qualify for the top 4 schools in the past, under new system, all ESIS eligible students will be offered a position (AL4 or 5) OR a ballot ticket (AL 6).

I have no idea about the part in bold. The part in italics and underline is what I was alluding to. Under the old system (in terms of number of ESIS issued) you would assume ESIS recipient has a very high chance even if ballot. But if it is extended to more people, the ballot odd may not be so great.

ESIS is always for top 3% of cohort, that is basically to fit into the top 4 schools of RI/RGS, HCI/NYGH. The % will not change.
