hi RGS parents,
for sec 1 how many classes ? 30 pax per class ?
thank you guys. -
My DD in YY1 seems to be not interested in anything now other than watching TV or reading Fanfiction/Wattpad. If I set screen time limit, she will try to find a loop hole. She keeps staring at the iPad but her work remains undone. Not willing to come out / engage in any other activities. How do I motivate her to do her work and teach her to keep herself more engaged.

HI RGS Parents,
please advise if the English Literature Book for Year 1 in 2020 is the same as the one in 2019? -
For P6 parent who has the intention to send your DD to RGS this year, here are some interest findings to help in your decision making.
The purpose of this exercise is to better under the correlation between AL COP and T-score so that students and parents can assess the risk and chances when applying for S1 posting.
According to MOE, the indicative AL COP for each school is based on the PSLE score of the actual last student admitted to a particular school and course, which is to say the last student is determined by the lowest PSLE score among students with the same AL score band. For the case of RGS the indicative AL COP is AL6 and the last student has a t-score of 261 (2020)
The formula which MOE uses to determine student t-score is designed in the way that the scores range of the entire cohort is used to determine the magic multiplying factor to convert raw score to t-score.
T = 50 + 10[(x-m)/s)
x is the student’s raw score for the subject,
m is the cohort’s average raw score for the subject
S is the standard deviation (SD).
Under the new AL system, only raw score range will be used to determine the AL score and every P6 student will be awarded AL scores (without knowing their raw score). e.g. 90 and above = AL1, 85 to 89 = AL2.
What we also know is that the score range at different AL is different. e.g AL1 (90-100), AL2 (85-89), AL6 (45-64)
Due to this disparity in score range, MOE AL COP simulation to be more reliable at the top end of the AL COP. e.g. with AL6, as there is no possibility of any AL4 or below subjects.
Here is what we know about AL6 COP
a) There are only 2 ways to score an AL6, which is AL 1122 or AL 1113.
b) The minimum combined score for AL6 is 90 90 85 85 or 90 90 90 80, both will add up to 350
c) The maximum combined score for AL6 is 100 100 89 89 or 100 100 100 84, which will add up to 378-384
In 2020, there are 4 IP schools with AL6 COP, and they are RGS, RI and MGS
According to information available online, we also know that their respective 2020 T-score COP
RGS (261), RI(259) and MGS(257),
Since we know 350 is the lowest possible raw score for AL6 and 257 being the lowest t-score among the AL6 COP schools, we can then say that 257 should be closest to the lowest possible AL6 score which is 350.
Based on MOE official 2020 AL COP indication for IP school we compare that to the range of 2020 t-score COP
AL6 257-261
AL7 254-261
AL8 251-255
AL9 250
Since our objective is to find out the lowest possible score, we will focus our attention on the lowest t-score for each AL
AL6 : 257
AL7 : 254
AL8 : 251
AL9 : 250 (only 1 school entry (TJC), hence this cannot be taken as lowest)
From the above, we can then say 257 (t-score) is likely to be closest to the bottom end of AL6 COP, which is 350 raw score.
With these assumptions and information, we can determine the estimated raw score / t score conversation multiplying factor for 2020 simply by 257/350 = 0.7342
Unfortunately, T-score doesn’t show the decimal point, which means MGS 257 and HCI 257 could be anything between 256.5 to 257.4 Hence margin of error will be around +0.4/-0.5 t-score
Now that we have established the t-score multiplying factor we can now calculate the estimated t-score equivalent of other AL COP
Min combine raw score for AL4 to AL 8
AL4 = 360
AL5 = 355
AL6 = 350
AL7 = 345
AL8 = 340 (Excluding possible AL5 subject, 1115)
The raw score difference between each AL is 5, when convert into t-score value it will be 5 x 0.7342 = 3.67
Assuming 2020 lowest t-score for AL6 is 257.00, we can now estimate what is the lowest possible t-score for each AL band.
AL5 = 260.67
AL6 = 257.00
AL7 = 253.33
AL8 = 249.66
AL9 = 245.99
Now let’s compare this with the actual 2020 t-score COP
RGS (261), RI(259), HCI(257) and MGS(257).
From the above, we can see that RGS 261 COP is already within the AL5 COP range and the reason is that the AL6 score can range from 350(257) to 384 (282). Similarly for NYGH, the COP for 2020 was 261, however, the AL COP is AL7. (could be student strong in Math, Science, and Chinese, but weaker in Eng)
Since RGS COP for 2020 is already in the region of AL5, and 257 AL6 students are now eligible to apply for RGS under the AL system, its highly probable that COP for 2021 may be AL5 instead of AL6.
Good luck! -
How were the indicative PSLE Score ranges for individual schools simulated?
The indicative PSLE Score ranges for the individual schools were simulated using the 2020 P6 cohort’s PSLE results and school choices.
• MOE first simulated each student’s individual subject score in AL terms, based on their raw subject scores.
• Then, we added the AL scores for each PSLE subject to form a student’s total PSLE Score.
Using these simulated PSLE Scores and students’ school choices from 2020,
• MOE simulated their posting outcomes based on the new S1 Posting System and its tie-breakers (in the order of Citizenship, Choice order of Schools and Computerised Balloting).
• The indicative PSLE Score ranges for individual secondary schools were then generated based on the PSLE Scores of the first student and the last student who would have been posted into the school under the simulation.
As the 2020 PSLE cohort had their results in T-score terms, the PSLE Score ranges are indicative only, as they were simulated using the 2020 PSLE cohort results and students’ school choices in that same year. The actual PSLE Score range for a school for a particular year is not pre-determined, and may vary from year to year, depending on the PSLE results and school choice patterns of each P6 cohort.

Hi fellow parents,
May I know whether anyone would like to sell any used recent Sec 1 books/materials/uniform?
If yes, please pm me. Thank you. Best regards,letlive8
