      I'm genuinely confused.

Why can it not be 95*2+85*2? That will also give a Tscore of 264.3. How does your calculation prove that all subjects have the same A* score?

In fact, by similar calculation, i can get Tscore 267 (99*2+85*2). How can this show that 85 is not A*? Unless there is proof that A* for all subjects means the same score, any kind of calculation can be done. Agreed that it is difficult to imagine A* for a score in the 70s, but 80s still seem plausible.

You are right because we are discussing the minimum t-score for 4A*
      Certainly, a 3A* + A t-score can be higher than 4A*

This is the same reason why AL6 students can achieve a higher raw score or T-score equivalent than AL4
      e.g
      AL6 95 95 89 89
      AL4 90 90 90 90

One very good example is the AL COP for NYGH.
T-score COP is 261 in 2020, similar to RGS, but AL COP for 2020 is AL7, while RGS is AL6

Is it because NYGH is SAP, thus t-score can be 258+3?

HCL Merit is worth 2 bonus points, so if we deducted the 2 points off NYGH 261-2 = 259,

RI COP 2020 was 259, but indicative AL COP is AL6.
MGS COP 2020 was 257, but indicative AL COP is AL6,

IMO AL7 balloting at NYGH will be extremely risky because AL7 (M) will now include students with 253 t-scores + (M), which in 2020 t-score term is 255. And since 259 is already higher than AL6 min score, it will be possible that COP for 2021 will be AL6 instead of AL7.

There will be no balloting for AL7 students without HCL if COP is AL7(M). AL7(M) ranks higher than AL7. Similarly, AL7(D) ranks higher than AL7(M).

                253 + (M) = 253 + 2

                M= HCL merit (2)

With 253/4 as the lowest possible t-score for AL7 t-score in 2020, any students with 253/4 + HCL merit would have qualified or try to apply for NYGH if AL system was introduced last year with similar indicative AL COP of AL7 (m)

Unfortunate under the t-score system, a 253/4 + 2 (255-256) will certainly not get a chance for NYGH because historical COP for the school (non-affiliated) has always been around 259-261.

And this is the reason why I expect intense competition at NYGH in 2021 if COP remains at AL7(M)

Dear parents. Been struggling to find more information about 3rd language to make an informed choice. was hoping the authorities can provide more support in this area. Heard some rumours about some sort of 3rd language choosing webinar for GEP students by their seniors. If anyone know any information like the time or link would appreciate if you can share. Thanks.

3rd language is offered to top 10% of students. It will be in section B of the school selection form which your kid will receive on result day if he is eligible. Section A will be your choice of 6 schools, section B is 3rd language option, section C is ESIS option. Section B and C will only in the form if your kid is in the top 10% and top 3% respectively. My kid did not select section B as I just want her to do well in English and HCL. HCL will be getting more and more important and will be sufficient if she can master it well.

                        Minor Additions on Third Language:

                        a) There is no Top 10% requirement this year. Foreign Languages such as German, French, Spanish and Japanese require AL8 or better. This threshold (although probably around Top 10%) will not move regardless of whether the cohort does well or not as well.

                        b) Other Third Languages are open to many more students and only require AL24 or better. Includes Bahasa Indonesia, Arabic, Malay (MSP), and Chinese (CSP).

Generally speaking, it’s not easy to learn another language especially if there’s no help at home. The kids that survive seem to have had an underlying interest in the language whereas those who are just trying it out because they can will see a very high attrition rate. Trying it out is fine (there’s no point to stay if you don’t like it) but keep in mind the kids will already be much busier and there’s just a lot of other things to do in secondary school (interest wise).
