      Was there a change in leaders/management? New Principals or HODs may decide they want their own.

        No, don’t have.

        However, the current beloved principal has been promoted to Cluster Superintendent (South) and will be leaving this December.

        So next year we will have a new principal.

            Hello, i want to ask about CCA from P3 onwards. according to the school website. if kid chooses a sport CCA, he has to choose one team sport in first semester and one individual sport in second semester. is this also applied to P4- P6? and also is the kid allowed to choose one sport and one club CCA in the same academic year? there was one post in this topic also mentioned that some CCA needs balloting. Could anyone share more about this? thank u!

              U can read more here (if u haven’t already):

              https://acsj.moe.edu.sg/our-ccas/acsplore-modular-sports-cca

              I believe if u want to take a 2nd CCA (Eg. a club CCA), it is possible but subject to availability/approval.

              Balloting is conducted if demand exceeds supply. It would help if u state the specific CCA you’re talking about, then a helpful parent with experience can respond.

                thank you zac’s mum. my son played soccer since 4 years old. He will choose it as team sport. for individual sports, swimming , badminton or table tennis could be a choice. But all of these four sports are stated as "hot" sports on the website and subjects to availability after returning kids took a seat first. I am wondering any kids with similar hobbies have gone through a balloting process and how it works…

                  one more question, if 1st sem soccer + 2nd sem swimming is allowed, why is 1st sem soccer + 2nd sem science club considered two CCA?

                    Because the ACSplore/ACScite program is for sports (not clubs). So Science club will be considered a 2nd CCA.

                      Thanks Zac’s Mum. Could you please also help to explain a bit of our school Thoburn Program from P4 onwards. What kind of kids are eligible for this program? how is different from GEP program and how many kids have been involved in this program so far? thank you!

                        I do not have any first-hand info about Thoburn Program, so someone please correct me if I’m wrong. This is what I understood from the slides shown & comments by speaker at past parent briefings:

                        P4 Thoburn Program is offered to:
                        (1) students who pass Round 2 of the GEP test but choose to stay in ACSJ instead;
                        (2) students who have very high marks in Round 1 of the GEP test (the GEB will inform the school of these results, one separate list for English & one separate list for Math) - school will offer the relevant Thoburn subject English and/or MAth accordingly;
                        (3) any remaining vacancies (I believe each Thoburn class is very small, perhaps 10-20?) will then be offered to the students who scored the highest overall marks for that particular subject in the school exams - I suppose these would be the non-weighted exams in P3;
                        (4) for Science Thoburn program, it’s offered to groups 1 and 3 mentioned above;

                        Thoburn Program is an enrichment program held after school, versus GEP program (at GEP schools) is held during school hours.

                        English - Thoburn kids get to learn Debate skills & join the GEP debate competitions
                        Maths & Science - Thoburn kids get to join the E2K program organized by GEB teachers

                        In other words, it’s for a very tiny minority of boys and the program is kinda low-key as the school generally does not really brag or laud any top scorers or competition winners by name.
