hello there! graduated sec4 crescentian here!
I can't find much info on PLD purchase at CGS for 2021 from the website. Is it bought thru the school or parents have to buy the recommended models outside? Can use edusave? I have read a few school websites. Most of them use edusave to buy the PLD thru the schools. Not sure for CGS. Hope to hear from parents/students here. Thanks.
from what ive seen the new sec1s buy ipads at the start of the school year. the school only started standardising sec1s using ipads this year so im not vv clear on what the process is like now ahah 😅
when i had to buy my PLD the school gave us a list of devices that we could choose from and i bought mine from IT fair. might be different now tho since they've standardised the devices to ipads. -

hello there ! graduated sec4 crescentian here :))
Good morning. May I know CCA days at Crescent for sports, uniformed groups, and clubs & societies? Thanks in advance.
cca days at crescent are mondays, wednesdays and fridays! cca timings are usually from 3-6pm, with clubs and societies sometimes starting later at 3.30pm and ending earlier at 5.30pm. sports ccas tend to end later, at about 6.15pm-6.30pm!
chess club only has cca sessions on monday, while most other ccas have cca sessions on mondays and wednesdays. band and the sports ccas have cca sessions on monday, wednesday and friday. -
Hi parents and students of Crescent Girls, can you pls share your advice to me? My girl is outgoing and active. She talks and makes lots of friends. Academic wise ok. Not very self motivated and not very hard working. Estimated AL~ 11 or 12.
I doubt if her characters would fit in to the Crescent Girls’ culture, especially she is not the sit quietly type and not self driven in study. Thanks. -

i would think we crescentians are generally really welcoming and friendly, so i think your daughter will fit in quite well : ) there's a lot of us who are really outgoing and make friends easily too !
regarding the part about her not being very self motivated/hardworking, i dont think it is a very big cause for concern. in crescent, most of our teachers are very passionate and dedicated when it comes to helping students out. many will go the extra mile to support our learning the best they can, whether it be opening up slots for consult or allowing us to message them on microsoft teams for questions we may have !
additionally, there are many of us who are quite studious, which can positively influence others to study harder too ! personally, im not the studious type, but seeing my classmates and friends study hard for exams, especially Os this year, really motivated me to study hard for Os.
i cant speak for everyone, but within my class and my friend group, nearing exams time, we would study together and share resources and notes to help each other. crescentians are generally really supportive and helpful when it comes to exams, etc ! so i dont think it is a huge cause for concern if your daughter isn't the studious type here : ) -
Hi,
I am also considering Crescent for my girl. Would appreciate if someone can answer these quests.
May I know if Crescent is strong in language and humanities?
What is the subject combination offered in Sec 3
Is it competitive
Is it tough to get into dance CCA
I have heard from many that Crescent is a nurturing environment. Only distance is a concern now -

im not too sure if crescent is considered strong in languages/humanities but i will say the english and humanities department has many passionate and dedicated teachers who are willing to go the extra mile for us ! at least for upper sec (i have somewhat forgotten what lower sec was like ahah 😅) the english, chinese, history and lit teachers give a lot of resources and are very willing to help us out and answer any queries we have about the subjects ! (i cannot speak for the other mother tongues/geog as i dont take those subjects)
for sec3 subject combi, crescentians can choose between double science + double humanities or triple science + single humanities.
the subjects that are compulsory for all crescentians to take at upper sec are english, mother tongue (unless exempted), amath, emath, chem and combined humanities (social studies + elective). some crescentians may choose to drop amath (or in rarer occasions, chem) later on if they find themselves struggling a lot academically
crescent doesn't offer combined science so everyone takes pure sciences. crescentians either take pure phy&chem, pure bio&chem or triple science.
for combined humanities, crescentians take social studies and an elective humanities of their choice (eg english lit, history or geog)
crescentians taking double science also take a pure humanities subject which is different from their elective (eg MEP, history, eng lit and geog)
while most crescentians take 7-8 subjects, some of us may choose to take a ninth subject, eg o level music (different from MEP) or third lang (continuing from lower sec)
crescent does not offer F&N, POA or computer science at any levels
crescent only offers art (GAP), lscep (lower sec computer enrichment programme), dnt and fce at lower sec and not as o level subjects
i think every school will have some very competitive students, and crescent is no exception. however, those students are the minority here at crescent. while many of us crescentians are driven to do well in our studies, most of us are also willing to lend others a helping hand, like sharing study resources or studying together ! i would think that generally, we crescentians are more collaborative than competitive : )
from what i know, dance cca in crescent is a very popular cca choice amongst crescentians every year, so getting in might be tough. however, crescent dance's coaches are quite accepting, as in they do not require crescentians to have a dance background to join the cca.
they also look out for potential dancers' attitudes towards learning dance in addition to their technique, so it is possible for a crescentian who isnt the most outstanding dancer to be accepted into crescent dance so long they display a positive attitude towards dance !
again, can't speak for everyone but personally, i think crescent does have a nurturing environment. crescent provides many leadership opportunities for crescentians (eg class comm, house leaders, peer leaders, student council, crezambassadors, cca leaders, etc) so we can hone our leadership skills !
like i mentioned earlier, most of our teachers in crescent are very passionate and dedicated in teaching us ! many of them genuinely want us to grow and succeed, so they often go the extra mile to look out for us and help us as much as possible. most of our teachers are also very supportive/encouraging and they often find ways to motivate us and cheer us on !
also mentioned earlier, i believe we crescentians are generally more collaborative than competitive. many of us are also encouraging and supportive of one other, celebrating one another's accomplishments and supporting one another through the tough times : )
regarding distance, personally, crescent is about an hour from my house via public transport (this is actually quite common amongst crescentians). while it can be quite tiring to travel quite a bit especially after long days/cca days, i dont think ive ever regretted coming to crescent because of it !
despite the pandemic affecting so many things in the past two years, my time at crescent has been very enjoyable and enriching. tbh, crescent wasn't my first choice when i was choosing secondary schools four years ago, but i now i am so glad and grateful to have come to crescent ! if i had to choose secondary schools all over again, i would still pick crescent in a heartbeat : ) -

Thank you for the detailed reply. Much appreciate it. I am actually in a dilemma between SCGS and CGS cos of the distance(SCGS is nearer) and Dance CCA( SCGS is more to ballet) and also super difficult to get in. Looks like it is equally difficult at CGS. I believe the dance group must be participating in competitions and events. My girl loves performing. After reading your reply , I feel that CGS might be more suitable place for my girl. We did apply for CGS under DSA. My daughter went thru the interview and audition for dance but unfortunately wasn't given a place. I didn't apply for SCGS as they weren't offering Tamil. Strangely, Tamil is offered now.
Let's see if she can make it to CGS with her PSLE results. Thank you! -
Thanks for the very detailed personal experiences from your response, strawberrypancakes. May I ask if you are now working or doing your studies?
