Of late, eg the 5 yrs PSLE Papers , at most 2 or 3 marks Mcq or short ans Qs. However, the Past year Qs, ( precovid), you still can find 4/5 marks Speed Qs.[/quote]I’m just concerned that it is a topic that’s difficult to grasp. And so time-consuming to figure out during exams. Even if the recent trend is fewer mark allocation to Speed qns, that means the child has to spend a long amount of time working on that 2-3 mark qn for less gains. Versus a 2-3 mark qn for a simpler topic like Angles.
Hi, wish to know how is speed a major topic for standard math? I only knew it’s tough didn’t see it carrying heavy weight (in terms of marks) in pre-covid papers. ThanksTookies\" post_id=\"2046295\" time=\"1636871494\" user_id=\"124548:

I just realized that Speed is a very major (and extremely tricky) topic for Standard Math. :nailbite: -

More practice helps.
Yes the weightage on “speed” seem to have decreased in recent years. For short qn or mcq, the question isn’t complicated. It’s a necessary skill to grasp. -

I see, thanks to all for sharing your views.

what I do know is every topic in P6 syllabus are fit for challenging questions and that is the reason why some students are so passionate about math and its multidimensional approach in solving problem

Just to say hello! Since PSLE is next year for my tiger child, I think it’s time I bring out the KSP in me and be more active in this chat. Hope to learn more from other wonderful KSPs here.

The 2010 kiddos are officially now batting…
Still (largely) anecdotal and speculation at this point but it seems like the "incentive" response to the new scoring system has been fairly strong. I suspect the actual 2021 COPs are going to be a bit different from the 2020 Indicative COPs.
2022 PSLE may have the CLTs for Math and Science added back, although I don’t think this will change the distribution of scores much, if at all.
Will see where the dust settles in late-December… -
My tiger daughter will be thrust into action next year. I would be interested to see the actual COP this year as I believed mapping from T-Score to AL can be misleading.
Looking forward to MOE releasing the 2021 data so I can parse through and analyse.
Additional:
I have a suspicion the COP for the SAP schools will look markedly different as the HCL bonus points will no longer factor in unless a tie.
For example under the old system, someone with merit in HCL would get 2 points, hence, combining with a T-score of 259 would get 261 (some years, the COP for NYGH).
Under the new system, she would get AL 7 (guesstimate) with M.
However, someone getting 260 (guesstimate AL6) under the old system would now get in ahead of AL7 because HCL grades only play a role in the event of a tie.
This is my guess but will need more data to clarify.
I based this on the observation that HCI/RI & NYGH/RGS historically have similar COP, but not under MOE’s indicative COP. We will have a better idea next year. -

Though similar t-score COP, the profile of students going to RGS/RI are different those to HCI/NYGH.

RGS/RI are secular schools offering different MTL, hence the will be many Indian, Malays students.
whereas for HCI and NYGH, they are both SAP schools catering more for Chinese students only.
One possible explanation as to why NYGH 2020 COP of 261 is AL7(M) and not AL6 is likely because the last student admitted in 2020 may be weaker in English language -

Our Tiger batch does not need to worry so much, we can eat popcorn and wait to see the dust settle.

Even before MOE officially releases the actual 2021 COPs, we will see parents reporting on KSP forum after they have called up each school on S1 posting day to check the final COP. Quite soon after that, some parenting & tutoring websites will publish the COP lists (typically for the IP schools, fewer for the O level and NA schools).
