The foreigner has AL 8D and his choices are
1. Victoria IP
2. Dunman High

The local student has AL 8M and his choices are
1. Dunman High
2. Victoria

Who goes to which school?

Feels that this is simpler.

Foreigner will get into Dunman High, and local student will get into Victoria IP.

Thoughts:
* From Victoria perspective: 2 AL8 students (foreigner with 1st choice v local with 2nd choice) -- local get in first.
* From Dunman perspective: AL8D beats AL8M. Foreigner will get in based on merit.
* No balloting required

Imagine the case in which the local student gets into Dunman High with AL8(M) . This means system will not be consistent, since based on merit, AL8(D) beats AL8(M). The AL8(D) may appeal, when COP of Dunman High is released to be AL8(M).

Although a local has advantage over foreigner, I think the foreigner with 8(D) gets to select (SAP sec) school first before local with 8(M) ??
Lowest possible raw score for AL8 is AL 1 1 1 5 ( 90+90+90+65) = 335
> This is correct.

If we translate that to 2020 t-score it will be around 246.4
> This is iffy.

Without knowing the mean1 to mean4, as well as sigma1 to sigma4, this is only speculative and purely guesswork.

You can use the below information provided by MOE to determine the iffyness of my calculation. it may not be 0.001 precision but it shouldnt be far.

Indicative COP / actual t-score cop for 2020
AL6\t257-261
AL7 254-257
AL8\t251-255
AL9\t250

ESIS = 261
ESIS = AL5

Is the above (iffy part) really from MOE? I may have missed this announcement, as all the while I understood that was calculated by your assumed Tscore factor (Eg 0.73xx to 0.74xx)?
The above is a list of actual 2020 t-score COP grouped together by 2020 indicative AL COP. (MOE)

AL6 COP = RGS 261, RI 259, MGS 257.
AL7 COP = NYGH (261) , St Nic (257) ACS(I) 256 and NJC 254

AL6 to AL7, the difference in lowest possible score is exactly 5 marks and that will equate to around 3.6xx t-score.

So for AL5, it should be around 257+3.6xx = approx 261.

ESIS COP = 261 = AL5.

Dear All,

Need some advice. My DS got 11P for his PSLE result. He is considering the following schools:

First choice: Chung Cheng Main (6M - 11M)
2nd Choice: Nan Chiau (4M - 11M)
3rd Choice: Maris Stella (7M - 12)

Will he have a chance to get in his first 2 choices?

Thank you for the advice.

If you put either as first choice, sure can get in.

But are u sure your child will be happy to do HCL in secondary school?

Last year COP for both RGS and NYHS = 261 but why the AL COP is 6 and 7M respectively and not both 6? Is 7M due to affiliation and we should assume 6 for non affiliated kids?

This is because some of those who entered nygh would have added the 1-3 points for HCL, meaning their t score before HCL bonus point could be as low as 258.

Ah~~ I see! Thanks!

There can be a few reasons for that. The most obvious one is simply the last student who admitted to NYGH is 261 t-scores, but AL7 AL score.

e.g. AL 1 1 2, 3 or AL 1 1 1 4. But the overall t-score is high because AL1 covers from 90 to 100.

if a AL7 student score 99 99 99 79, his or her t-score will be around 276

FYI, MGS 257 = AL6

Oh yes, I should have thought of it!
