Hi, for my son’s AL13 score, would it be wise to select first choice either AL 11 Fairfield Methodist or ACS Barker?
Or above no chance and instead the following:
First choice as Maris Stella AL12
2nd choice as Geylang Methodist AL15

Do we need AL score of 8 to do 3rd language? if the form doesn't come with the results means cannot take?

Which school do you or your son like better, Fairfield Methodist or ACS Barker? With AL13, no problem getting into either. Congratulations!

FYI. Both Fairfield Methodist and ACS Barker are Methodist schools, have affiliation to ACJC, are holistic and have a broad range of students. Fmss is co-ed whereas barker is a boys school. -

I politely disagree with the phrase in bold. Nephew did well enough this PSLE to be offered any non-specialised sch he chooses. Due to personal reasons, HCI just edges out RI for him. When I was researching between A level and IB for my son 5 years back, what I found then was that the former had more depth while the latter was wider in scope. Since my boy was Math/Sci-inclined, I suggested A level over IB to him. -

What you are saying is that there will be certain students with 240 t-score but due to AL scoring system, these students will not make it to AL11 or perhaps get promoted to AL10 (this is possible because the lowest possible t-score for AL10 is around 228 with 90 90 85 45)

The logic is flawed here as you can't preclude the possibility that a portion of those above 240 students will fall out of AL11 band, no one knows for sure how the numbers will shift.
That for sure, could happen. However, what are the odds of the number of such unfortunate students to be \"downgraded\" be larger than the new pool of students with scores from 224 to 239 joining other 240 AL11 students vying for the same school?
AL system affects students nationwide, while the circumstances you quoted are limited to just AL11 COP schools with 240 score.
My argument is not flawed, it just doesn't take into account the small number of unique circumstances. -

Actually it is obvious that you like crescent more than swiss. Swiss is more convenient yet you have headache/confusion. This means you like crescent better right? Cos if you like swiss better, then coupled with straightbus, there will be no headache/confusion. You are looking for assurance that you have made a right choice to pick Crescent

AL6 is not because it covers 45 to 64 marks. -

It is a matter of demand and supply, and this year its random, because if 2 kids are vying for the same place, and even though one is consistently slightly better than the other, they might end up with the same grades and bidding for the same school. In a bid, it might so happen that the one with slightly better grades lose out.
That is the key difference between t-scores and AL-scores, at least based on my understanding. So even if we are sure about how AL-scores are related to t-scores and we plan accordingly, things might turn out to be very different because of this uncertainty.
I'm sure t-scores and AL-scores are somewhat related, and you might have found the link. But how will it reduce concerns of parents getting their kids into their desired school? How can we defeat the randomness of balloting?
That's the last thing I'll say on this subject based on my limited knowledge, so no need to try to get me to understand. I'm stupid, I know, but sometimes it's a good thing...
However, I believe parents will still try their best to study and analyse before deciding on their choice of school. The comparison between the past T-Scores and present AL- scores may be one of the methods for this analysis. In Chinese, we say \"尽人事，听天命\" (we try our best in our work but the result left it to the God's will).
I appreciate the hard work by everyone here trying to analyse and provide useful information to parents on their selection of schools. -
both COP of Maris Stella and Yishun Tow in 2020 was 239, but when it is mapped to AL, Maris Stella is 12 while Yishun Town is 13.
