      10% should be right, maybe 9% ~ 11%, but beyond 8% and 12 % is unlikely

It doesn't sound like much but a 1%-2% swing up or down could have dramatically different outcomes for COP and ballot odds. It's not just the additional 1% (11% vs. 10% or 9% vs 10%%) but how many spaces the AL4-AL7 ahead of you took up (presumably there are more or less of these too). The important consideration is how many fewer (or additional) spaces are left until you hit 10% (~IP full) compared to the additional (or fewer) people vying for these spots. The kicker is that these two factors likely turbocharge things up or down; it's not a static one more person with their name in the hat for the same number of spots.

Of course, no one knows for sure what the distribution is this year. As you have done, collecting AL4-AL8 vs. prior 250+ numbers/percentages can give us some insight with the caveat/issue being no one probably has a full year-by-year time series for all of these schools' historical rates and/or firsthand knowledge of exactly what happened this year.

i agree that 1 or 2 % swing will impact the COP and balloting a lot.
so based on AL8 is eligible for thirdlanguage and 250 was the COP for 2020 IP school, i guess AL8 will be covering a little bit over 10%, that's why last year simulated result, a lot of COP for IP school is AL8.

Hi, I hv one urgent query pls. My child scored AL4 in psle and also got confirmed offer from NUSH today through SIE. We are at foreigner status, shall we wait for the S1 posting outcome( RGS is option 1 in S1 posting) or shall go with NUSH. Which should be the better choice. Thank you🙏

Depends on which school she prefers. Both are very different schools.

for AL4, you can choose any school in singapore, whether you are foreigner or not, as it's impossible for RGS to starting balloting at AL4. your daughter definitly get a slot.

regarding NUSH, i attended a webinar regarding school selection, the host gave the advice that: don't decide to do science and math at such a young age, some student got into NUSH regreted after one or two years. if you daughter really want to do math and science, there are plenty of chances to do math and science, don't forget there are plenty of chances duing university, do NOT limit yourself at \"such a young age.\"

personally i think that make a lot of sense, please, go for RGS, not NUSH

              Hello Parents,

My DS scored AL7(D), and he is going for Catholic High OP (6M to 9M). But we’re worried he may not get in as the vacancies for non affiliated is only 20% (which is balance 30 out of 150 places, assuming 80% full take up rate by affiliated students). May I know if anyone can advise if CHS usually max out their 80% of affiliated intake in previous years?

As we’re uncertain if he can get into his 1st choice, we intend to put Nan Chiau High (4M to 11M) as 2nd choice. Based on my understanding from the posts in this forum, can I say since the S1 posting is by merit, he will be safely posted into NCHS despite being 2nd choice?

              Thanks in advance!

                Edit:
Please contribute to this poll as we are trying to establish the overall general AL scores of children all over Singapore, NOT considering the school. This will give some idea of what kind of balloting that you might face at a certain AL level when you apply for a secondary school.

This poll is kindly being administered by our user putien.

Please try to be as accurate as possible as you are likely to be using the same data when applying for your secondary school.
Update: There is a sudden drastic increase in AL4 % due to multiple inputs by one IP address. What's that person's intention?

Why don't you try Catholic High IP (as first choice)? I think your DS has a good chance with AL7(D).
Unless he prefers the O-level track.

The percentage rule has been in force since 2019 psle.
Whatever cop you see in 2020 sec 1 and 2021 sec 1, has already taken that into account.

Stay in west and kid got a AL6(M). Original plan for RVHS (nearset SAP IP) but would like to try out HCI (but kind of far).
Came out with below list and wonder if RVHS (as 2nd choice) is a sure safe catch if did not get HCI?

                        1) HCI
                        2) RVHS
                        3) RI
                        4) NJC
                        5) Nanhua
                        6) Swiss Cottage

Almost certain to get RVHS if not posted to HCI. Hence, everything else below unlikely to matter. FWIW, you may have a shot at RI (if you want it) but it will likely need to be first choice. The conundrum would be whether to put RI first and HCI second. I think better odds than not that AL6(M) is safe at HCI whether first or second but can't say for sure.

                        Congrats and good luck.

Very high chance to get into HCI or RI, boy schools are not that competitive as compared to the girl counterparts. So don't worry. Sure can get into HCI. Not advisable to put top schools again as 2nd choice as I believe they will be filled by 1st choice. Choice is important now.
