Just to share, hope this helps. My child is in NYGH, while my niece is in RGS, so my bro and I often exchange parenting and school notes.

1) Vast majority of my daughter's classmates in NYGH don't go for tuition. NYGH provides extra remedial lessons for weaker subjects and advanced talent development programmes for stronger subjects. They are very on the ball - for eg. in HCL, all the kids who didn't do \"as well\" in their PSLE Chinese are asked to take a diagnostic test, and then siphoned into remedial classes if needed.

In fact, there are fewer egs of \"tiger parenting\" in my child's NYGH class. This is a huge and welcome relief for us and many other parents in the class, I'm sure. For me and my partner, it is a huge mental relief to be able to be \"hands off\" and count on the school to look after my child. My daughter, through the year, gives me egs of classmates (and herself) not always doing homework on time, etc, but at the end of the year exams there are still many A1s and A2s, based on the students' own efforts.

2) One of the best things about NYGH is the HUGE amount of support given to parents. The school teachers will ask to speak to you if they are concerned about your child's welfare, including social and academic life. There are many very caring teachers in NYGH. The school also organises parenting seminars (they tied up with Lakeside, among other Parenting VWOs), to help parents with their Q&A regarding how to parent Teenagers and help them with time management.

My girl is much more relaxed in lower sec than in Pri 6 :snooze:

3) Lower sec dismissal time is usually between 2-3pm, as it starts later at 8am. But due to CCA or Talent Development programmes, there might be later dismissal times.

Since your niece is in RGS, can your provide some comparison between these 2 schools?

Hi, there is a thread comparing NYGH vs RGS elsewhere in KSP.

Many of the comparisons are subjective and highly personal (eg. distance to school, affinity with friends, ability to cope with an immersive, highly refined Chinese environment, preference for values such as being discreet, appropriate and being able to keep your feelings within yourself, or \"tolerate\" in the face of adversity).

For my child, I put her in NYGH because of distance to school (many parents who live in the West opt for NYGH due to home to school distance). In addition, I was also concerned at her being vocal enough to stand out in RGS - i.e. be selected for competitions, awards, special programmes, good courses in Uni. If every girl is an articulate leader, who leads and who follows? IMHO, I would prefer my child to be in the top 10% of NYGH, than to be average in RGS.

Any comments on AEP, Art elective program in NYGH? With the Integrated program, should be good to start in AEP. Art itself is a very heavy subject and the projects takes long hours. Any sharing on doing AEP till Sec4 while coping with sciences and maths?

Hello! Its a late reply but would just like to share a bit of what I know since I have a lot of classmates taking MSP haha!! (I don't take it personally but I have classmates who do since I was grouped in a same class as them!) For MSP in NYGH, it is in house and there are usually two slots for the lesson in the same level (e.g. For say S1 MSP, child can choose lesson either on Monday or Tuesday, Monday is always fixed, Tuesday may be cancelled sometimes due to various circumstances (but the days change from year to year and level to level, this is just an example)). From what I've heard, MSP's assessments (lower sec) can include making of brochures about the school (in Malay, of course!). Apologies if this isn't very exact because I don't take any Third Language :(( If you'll like to know more about other aspects of Nanyang do PM me or let me know here! Hope this answer helped

I am a P6 student this year and will be in sec 1 in 2022. Just wonder if there is specific classes for GEP student or those high scorer in PSLE? Or all classes are average?
BTW how many lessons r there in one day? Are teachers friendly or kind of stern?

Why would it be confiscated?
I don't think e-readers are confiscated even in pri-schools just because they are brought to school, right?

Unless the student is reading it when other things are going on, eg. while the teacher is teaching or during times when they are supposed to be paying attention, etc, I don't see why an e-reader would be confiscated. Anyway, from Sec2 onwards, they have (and are supposed to bring and use) personal IT devices like laptops/ ipads.

Don't worry - they aren't treated like small kids anymore but are expected to act and behave responsibly. So your e-reader is probably safe.
