Hi, my DD score 8M, our choice as following. Any advice or suggestion ? Is it logical? My girl really like RV, so we put it as 1st choice.
1. River Valley IP
2. Cedar girl IP
3. Singapore Chinese girl IP
4. Cedar girl O
5. Nan Hua High
6. Chung Cheng yishun -
Though I am not sure where you live, but RV and Cedar, one is in the far west, one is in the east, I reckon your child is willing to travel with either? Nan Hua High will be your safety net.

I live in woodland, RV and Cedar is the place that we can tolerate. Plan to share grab in the morning. With the choice, a little bit worry if 1st choice cannot go in, 2nd,3rd,4th also hopeless

No offence to the non Singaporeans parents, I agree singapore have good education system compared to some other countries. Converted to Singapore citizenship, most welcome. I think it is something good for scholars to convert to singapore citizen, contributing to the country. But if just tagging along with singapore education system, I think MOE should give singapore citizen the advantage.
This week is really a stressful week for PSLE parents. I do hope MOE can really look into what we parents are going through.... I have been thinking, where is the advantage being a singaporean? Why can't our singapore top schools filled with singaporeans first.
Honestly, why should a singaporean P6 student have to compete with foreigners, after all they will be going back to their own country? Shouldn't the top schools cater for singaporean first. I think having AL 8, can still do well in RGS or RI. Why should singaporean fight for a placing in top schools. Competition among singaporean is more than enough. Losing to a singaporean, I think is fair...I think we should have more than enough AL 4-8 students to fill up the top schools.
Shouldn't MOE change the merit first to citizen first? -

You don’t over worry lah. When MOE derived RVHS COP as AL9, it has already factored in that 5, 6, 7, 8 pointers would have secured their places in RVHS right?

Dear parents, gurus.
Please give any opinion for my girl. :?: :?: :?:
My girl Is PR with 7(M) and NYGH, NJC, RVHS are her top 3 choice.
I also think for NYGH she has high chance for balloting.
As ‘PR’ student who has lower priority may not be seated with only 7M(NYGH’s COP).
Also for NJC(cop 7), same situation may happen.
Then my concern is that RVHS(COP9) is on her 3rd choice order.
But there might be many 7D,7M citizen student and even PRs who put RVHS as 1st or 2nd choice.
Even worse, some 5,6 pointers already secured the seats in RVHS.
So she will lose all 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice school????
This might be the extreme assumption but I cannot get out of this big dilemma and still not decided yet.
How to do? Better give up 1 choice either NYGH or NJC to secure RVHS?
Any opinion will be appreciated. Thank you
If your DD can’t get into RVHS, that means the COP of RVHS has risen 2 AL points from AL9 to AL7. Not impossible but not quite likely. If RVHS COP stays put at AL9 or even rises to maybe AL8, your DD (even though PR) would have been accepted already because academic merit comes first. -

Maybe can i ask a bit more , so the score range (6M - 9M) is considered based on last year admission, is 6M the highest score and 9M as the lowest score to enter Cat High?
I am just thinking if the 6M and 9M is a conversion from last year T score, and i take it as maybe non affiliated is 30%, around 45 students, could it be chances that one possible variant, is that 42 of them entered from 6M - 8P (higher than current AL8) and leaving remaining 3 is at AL8/AL 9(D)/AL 9(M) taking last year T score as example (and they managed to get in as T Score is different)....... understand I thinking too much already but can't deny it might be, and seeing even AL6/7 also facing some unsure situation when choosing their school of choice, therefore somehow looking at this year AL system doesn't give me the confidence that AL 8 might have chances for it.

A current CHS Secondary student estimates that the % affiliated students (those who come from CHS Primary) is around 20-30%. This means that under the T-score system, around 70-80% of the cohort comes from other Primary schools. I believe that it should not deviate too much under the new AL system
So don't worry, your son at AL8 stands a very good chance to get into his first choice of CHS OP. -

This reminds me. Don’t flame me but from what can be seen in the top IP schools (eg school events or what’s app and we-chat groups) there is indeed a good proportion of non Singaporeans in these schools in the cohort. Similarly, in most “good” primary schools, there is a good proportion of top scorers who are non Singaporeans. This could mean that Singaporeans might stand a better chance in this AL posting if they dare to take a calculated risk. So parents, please make your choices wisely. Sometimes the winners are the ones who dares to take that calculated risk. Good luck!

Would it matter if the higher scores are languages or Math/Sci? -

Same scenario, for those Singaporeans who are working in overseas, will it be fair to them even though their kids are intelligent and studying hard with excellent exam results but cannot go for local prestige universities because of their nationality?

Education should mainly on academic results and not on nationality, gender, races or religions. -

Under the t-score system, every raw mark of every subject will contribute to the final t-score.

For the above example, it will be classified as AL 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 = AL8. Using the same conversion rate of 2020, the t-score should be around 260.
You may be surprised why AL8 is 260, unfortunately, this is how AL system work. if a student score 89 89 89 89 AL will be AL8. And all it takes is 4 extra marks equally distributed among 4 subjects, the AL will be bumped up to AL4 (90 90 90 90)
At the top, the difference between AL8 7 6 5 and 4 could just be separated by 1 or a few raw marks.
