Not at all. GEP does not have special bonus points at all. Read within these forums there are cases of many Geppers who cant meet the cutoff points or DSA (academics) too. GEP does not mean confirm will do very well in PSLE (although most will). More concerning is those who did special prep for GEP, which may inflate their abilities. These kids could struggle in GEP as well as PSLE syllabus.

If kid gets accepted to GEP, seriously do consider to accept, with main intent for the development of the kid, in an enhanced programme. -

If my son does make it through, I’ll seriously be scared to accept the GEP offer. Afraid he will be stressed and most importantly I’ll be stressed coz I’ll feel like I have to help him and support him all the way. Oh well! Maybe I’m just being paranoid ! Honestly I don’t know. Will just wait for the results and then think about it.

Ah boy said the toughest paper actually is English.
Then Mathematics .
General Ability I & II actually quite easy .
Can’t wait for the results to be announced too ! : )
Below notes from my boy .
GEP Selection Excercise Day 1 :
(1) English Language ( 80 minutes )
Paper 1 : 50 questions (20 are MCQ questions)
Paper 2 : 30 questions (15 are MCQ questions)
He finished all the questions just on time, about 7x questions unsure.
(2) General Ability I ( 80 minutes)
Paper 1: 40 MCQ questions
Paper 2: 17 MCQ questions ( why so weird ? )
He finished all the question on time too , about 10x questions unsure.
GEP Selection Excercise Day 2 :
(1) General Ability II ( 55 minutes )
Paper 1 : 24 MCQ questions
Paper 2 : 13 MCQ questions
He finished all the questions on time, about 3x questions unsure. He said the test paper is easy but yesterday General Ability I test was extremely easy.

Paper 1: 40 questions (20 are MCQ)
Paper 2: 8 questions
He finished all the question on time too , about 4x questions unsure but questions were easier than Olympiad Mathematics . -

I have the same concern with you too. The syllabus is different from mainstream syllabus and with lots project.. They may not have much time for revision. Down the road, PSLE result still the core entry to good secondary school. Whether to allow them stay back at current mainstream school, focus in PSLE preparation or GEP (more projects based but so called the \"gifted\".) Of course, their mental health whether being overly stress or play time as a child is a concern too . -

Same here. DS doesn’t adapt too well to new things and he’s only really settled into school life this year. Wonder if it’s worth disrupting his routines and if it will jeopardize his PSLE performance (short runway to PSLE revision + need time to adapt = not good idea?). But he is very keen for the program as he feels he wants to do more in depth and hands on learning. If he does not get selected for GEP this will be a non-decision so we will just wait to hear. We suspect he has mild asd but not formally assessed. Any parents here have any experience or advice about whether kids with mild asd are suitable for this program?

I dont think my son has mild asd but mummy your sharing beats what i am wondering. I feel my son should be at high ability range (at least now, not sure if he will be GEP, we did not send him for any tuition but he is doing well / not toppest, his focus level in class and on thing he interest is awesome), with observation, I feel his stubbornness is extremely exceeding “kids range” and his way to manage his emotion/feeling/thinking etc is poor (i will say zero), which i am v headache to manage. I read an article saying actually GEP/high talent kids also need special needs treatment which make me start to think….

Chill guys.
Attrition rate is 90% for round 2.
(Fact)
I’m equally excited to know the results soon and what follows after. (If any)
One worry at a time la. We can’t be planning 5 steps ahead.
Regardless the outcome, remember to celebrate the behavior (working hard , never give up easily) instead of the identity. (Gifted , not gifted) -

Thanks for your reply. I initially thought GEP is the shortest route to get into the Rafflesian schools as I know many Geppers are there.

This article on GEP isn't new, but is still a good read for parents who are waiting for the Round 2 results. Hope it helps to clear some doubts as well.
