School bus need to wake up quite early actually. Not much different as compared to taking public transport.

Best carpool. Check with primary schoolmates anyone also entered HCI.

My DS got 2 of his classmates entered HCI as well. So we able to take turn be driver.

I think it is true school bus will not change wake up / depart from home time by a lot. However, I believe the kids can doze off a bit again / don’t need to pay attention to what’s going on until arrive at school. So possibly save a bit more energy if only other option is public transport.

Hi, seeking some information from experienced HCI parents here.

For Year 4 streaming to Year 5/6 (College section), is the streaming based on one-off EOY exam, or results from the entire year of Year 4? Do they look at overall MSG for all subjects, or is it like the O-levels, choose 6 subjects for L1R5 computation?

Roughly when is the Year 4 EOY exam and Mid-year assessment, if any? Need to plan ahead for something.

In addition, I read from this thread that even though exams for special program subjects (e.g. humanities) is more difficult, there is no special consideration when computing the criteria (whether MSG or L1R5) for streaming. Is that true?

            Thanks so much.

anyone staying near Yio chu kang/ sunrise estate area near Amoy Quee Camp?
we are considering HCI but distance is a challenge
nearest mrt is YCK or Lentor but we need to take bus down to YCK/Lentor before starting the mrt journey

total traveling time will be 1hr 15mins there about
any students spending this much time traveling?

just wondering the toil it has on the kids and if it’s uncommon
We live somewhere in YCK too. We usually send our son to school in the morning, except on Fridays as school starts at 10am if there are no tests or CCA. He takes the TEL/Circle Line/DTL from Lentor to TKK, then take a quick bus trip to High School gate. Journey is about 1 hr+ door to door. The change of trains at Caldecott and Botanic Gardens takes up some time as there's quite a bit of walking required within the station. When Phase 3 of TEL is ready, we hope it can reduce his travelling time as he can then change trains at Stevens (TEL/DTL) without using the Circle Line.
I don't think the travelling is uncommon as my boy has classmates who live in Yishun and Woodlands. He complained at first, but he is used to it now. He prefers MRT to Bus 852, as road conditions during peak hour (it's worse if it rains) adds to the travelling time.

Hi. You may want to wait to see what the school rules are like this year.

We bought two school shirts and two PE t-shirts last year. Due to COVID, the boys were allowed to wear PE t-shirt every day. Thus, only one school shirt ever made it out of the house (picture taking day). Additionally, the boys may order a consortium t-shirt and they will probably receive a t-shirt for the Sec 1 Annual Camp (both of these could also be worn any day of the week last year, hence my kid ended up with four t-shirts).

If you are trying to buy now to avoid the rush around the end of the year, two or three of each is probably a safe place to start, and then you can adjust based on rules, preferences, and washing cycle/pattern. Also, depending on what CCA your kid is in he may need more PE t-shirts.

Well, according to this, the answer is yes:
