Sigh. There are lots of \"GEP preparatory courses\" out there but they are merely preying on the parents' inherently yearning that their kids are out to do \"big\" things. We regularly monitor these threads to ban anyone that tries to promote such services.
My daughter just came to Singapore for 2 months, and we plan to partipate in GEP 2022, is there any suggestions for preparing gep? looking farward to receiving your reply~
Such courses are bad because they may actually cause the GEP team to upscale their questions to really find truly gifted children! If your child is really gifted, her natural curiosities and talents should stand out clearly. There should be no need to introduce any GEP preparatory materials to drive her. It would be terrible for young children to become \"GEP-smart\" due to the drilling they receive from the courses, only to fail to keep up with the rigorous programmes that the GEP classes entails. -
Hi, I wanted to how far each GEP centre is away from my home, so I created this tool at https://yo-kelvin.web.app/
Hope this is useful to other parents who wants to check \"as the crow flies\" distances of the various schools from their home. -

Thank you everyone for your sharing . I went for the GEP briefing today . Many parents asked what if their kid cannot adjust to GEP and if the kid returns to mainstream , can kid return to the original school. Response was there is hardly any kid who has dropped out and so no direct response to the โwhat if โ.
For sharing , I asked TLL on whether their regular classes ( not the special GEP course ) could have contributed to my kid passing the GEP selection test . The verbal response was that they believe their worksheets created by the curriculum team is tougher than the usual standard and would have introduced the GEP type questions somewhat .
Congrats to all the kids who have been invited to join the GEP program and all the best to those who are accepting the GEP invitation. For us, we are still considering and will respect our girlโs decision if she declines. It is important for our kids to be happily learning and not too stressed out .
Dear gentleparent, my 2cents
Your girl has been accepted to GEP. Nothing to do with TLL. She has been assessed to be smart and eligible enough
1) Trust that she will be able to make a good decision. As parents, we just provide support and give clear & objective pros and cons, so her decision is sound and she owns it.
2) Donโt worry too much about safety net. It may be tough at first but have to commit to it and it will be ok after some time. She will be fine if take up. ๐
For my girl, I just make sure she is fully aware of possible issues and enters with open eyes ie. making new friends, missing old friends, new CcA, no prefect position, small fish big pond, less PSLE focus etc. Have been telling her for some time, but only now she accepts that her
path will be her own, rather than previously just โwant to follow older sisterโ. We have just accepted online and hoping to enter St Hildaโs. ๐๐ฝ -

Hi parents
I had a look at MOE site on GEP. It seem to me GEP is rigorous, much more than IP.
If I may,
IP= academics + aptitude
GEP = academics++ + aptitude
The 2 academic pluses in GEP are: + width and + depth in the subjects studied.
IP has 1 additional +, GEP has 3 additional +. -
If there's one more additional plus, it'd be the big one on the ambulance that drives me to the hospital
Very chim. :nunchuk: -

Hi Chief

I see it this way:
GEP :
1) covers the subjects that main stream covers too. But on these subjects,
2) GEP covers more chapters (width)
3) more difficult questions (depth).
4) GEP also learn aptitude related skills.
For IP ,
1) subjects covers, are eventually same as mainstream (at the final A level exam)
2) learn aptitude skills
GEP has 4 โjobsโ; IP has 2 โjobsโ -
No worries, I know
I'm just having a bit of fun on this boring morning. Your stuff on the implications of GEP is significant and should bring pause to parents who are driving their kids to take up GEP.
