In RI, advanced subjects are called RA. Like I mentioned earlier, it’s not just the ex-GEP kids who are taking RA. There are also ex-MS kids who are taking it. Some ex-MS kids are even taking the max 2 RA.

RA is not limited to just ex-GEP kids. From what I know, RI doesn’t distinguish between GEP or MS and classes are mixed between them nowadays. During ds’ time, to take RA at Y1, all students have to go thru selection tests and interviews, even if he DSA successfully via that subject. It’s the same process at Y3 and Y5.
Are the RA subjects = acceleration? Meaning in Sec 1, learning Sec 2/3 stuffs? In JC1, learning A level’s H3 stuffs?

Are the RA subjects equivalent to A level’s H3 subjects?
I’m unsure if they are of the same standard but I was told that if one is coping well in RA, then H3 dist is a strong possibility for that subject, though not 100% guaranteed.

Having said that, it is not a pre-requisite to take RA as a subject, if one wishes to pursue it at H3 level. And it’s also not compulsory to take a subject at H3 level, just bcoz one is taking it in RA.

Simply put, the H3 offer is by MOE while the RA offer is by RI. DS do have some friends who are taking certain subjects at RA level but not at H3 level.

I understand that this thread is about the GEP and I shouldn’t derail it further. If you still have other queries, feel free to pm me and I’ll try my best to answer.

I think you are referring to the ra prog? Yes, accelerate prog, doing some year five topics, in upper sec;)

While this is true in certain cases, in some IP sch, students get to do pt 2) and 3) too. For e.g. I know that in RI, a proportion of students (hearsay 25%) are doing beyond A level for selective subjects (and these include MS kids).

I suppose the nuance is that all GEP kids are doing beyond PSLE level.

              …… including << The Giver >>
I was curious about “the Giver” I googled it. Interesting story: only one person in the whole society with memories. And it become a gift that allow him to “see beyond”.

In our everyday lives, all of us have that “gift” memories too. I think the issue is, we crave for good memories and avert bad memories. So our “gift” are 1 sided. If we can learn to face both good and bad memories with equanimity, we will all have a complete GEP

                ….
Could it be IP schools could further customise IP curriculums: having different one for different group of students? Especially the independent IP schools?
                …..
IP schools can definitely customise their curriculums and this is not limited to independent ones.

Regarding the above about more width, this would mean doing additional topics, that are not covered in the regular O level syllabus. And this is definitely true of several IP schools I know, regardless of indept or aided or govt IP.

While it is true that eventually they all take the same A level (ip and non ip), in IP, they all a lot more than covering the basic syllabus. IP is not only about not sitting for the o level exams

The question is, do we have to face our memories? No matter how brilliant days or terrible days we had before, these days have already been passed. I prefer to face the challenges ahead instead of facing past memories.

The reason foresee challenges ahead, are based on 1 sided past memories of challenging days ? The other sides are those neutral and relaxing days.

                        In GEP context,

students remember pass mistake when attempting a question and accept that mistake and not shy away from it:
                        - Come next test, remember this pass mistake (bad memory) and not to repeat them
                        - also not to lose confident.

On the other spectrum, after doing well in a test:
                        - students are encouraged not to get complacent (indulge too much on this good memory) and skip study, thinking good result will be repeated.
                        - give themselves a pat on the back.
