Hearing conflicting info, if posted to Express but 1st choice put IP, and son met the cut off AL7, realistically, if we accept the Express, what are his chances of promoted across to IP? It's such a waste coz he already met the cut off and wins Edusave Academic/ECHA/Scholarship consistently every year since P1, but still balloted out of IP, his 1st choice. If the chance of conversion is really low (will it be like just 5-7 boys promoted to Year3, or in 50-60boys?)?
Getting into the IP by internal conversion is pretty straightforward. To be safe, make sure your core subjects average 85% and that you understand what the IP leading to the IB is all about. At least one full class is converted every year.

Thanks everyone, somehow I believe God may be testing my resolve. Kid has applied to ACS 3 times in his primary school life but every door keeps closing. He was able to read all the 26 alphabets at 17months, would often design word games for me as a toddler and he drew the most amazingly complex mazes all the time. When he passed GEP Rd1 and sailed through multiple Maths Olympiads, we tried for a transfer to ACSP but to no avail. Another school in Bishan accepted him and we moved. He was slotted into a high ability class offering higher chinese. After completing ABRSM Grade8 Violin and Double Bass Grade4 by age 11, we applied for DSA ACSI MEP and this time, armed with a P5 Edusave Scholarship Award (top10%. cohort), he was rejected again. During this period, besides scoring Edusave Academic Awards every year P1-P6, helming his school CCA as a student leader Chairman, he still found time to publish his first love interest, a book comprising of all his mazes drawings, which can now be found at the National Library Board (Central Library). And now with AL7(M), whilst we were happily anticipating IP as our 1st choice, we found out he’s being balloted out of ACSI IP at the S1 posting. The decision to forego IP with all the other IP schools (eg AL8,AL9 IP schools) and to put ACSI "O" as a 2nd choice took considerable weighing in. We strongly believed the IB program will be the right one to help him bloom as English remains his strongest subject. We decided to walk away from the traditional A levels and IP track that is already in his hands from his alma mater (his score is higher than her IP cut-off). To do "O" levels track, having to prove his salt all over again in 2 years, for a small chance of say 10%, is a painful reminder, that the doors may close again for a 4th time. Except in 2 year’s time, that closed door would mean, he would have missed out the 4 years of IB foundational training entirely, the DOK/EE basics, which in itself, must be worth its gold in the IB experience. If anything, I admire his strength to keep trying, as a sensitive child, to face closed doors, again and again, must take its toll. His tolerance for failure is beyond me. Yet he still wakes up every morning smiling to me, still trying to be the best of who he can be.

Your kid sounds intelligent, but has to work for his grades. As long as he keeps at it and knows what he wants, he will get there eventually. Congrats in getting into ACSI and hopefully he makes it to IP in 2 years 🙂

Don't worry too much. As someone who designed the original pre-IB programme and monitored it for many years, I can say with confidence that your son sounds like the sort who would've benefited from the IP/IB, but who would probably be able to compensate. He sounds like he has a lot of not only raw, but well-developed, talent. All the best to your family!

hi all. I am new here. My son is just posted to ASC Barker Sec 1 next year 2022 . His PSLE AL is 9 and his first option was ACSI Express stream with indicative cut off point is 9. Not sure what is the final COP for Express Stream.

I am thinking to encourage him to sit for the transfer exam to ACSI next year at the end of Sec 1. May you advise what should be his exam scores to get shortlisted in the first place (before the interview round)? What are the criteria? How I can prepare him in advance? Thanks so much for the advise.

Is there a WhatsApp chat group for parents whose kids are going to ACSI Year1 next year?

Am curious, what is this “transfer exam” that Penguin911 mentioned above? Is it an internal exam that ACS Barker Sec1 boys take to enter ACSI? Or ACSI Sec2 boys take to enter ACSI year3 IP? Normally how many ACSP or ACSJ boys (through affiliation AMR AL13) will crossover to ACSI ? (Will the primary boys take up almost the full quota of 80%)
