Key change in bold from the prior advice. Not everyone wants to do that, which is why simply putting \"highest chance\" as first choice doesn't always make sense for everyone (my original comment to the advice).
the reason why the choice order of school is typically arranged with the smallest AL COP at the top and the biggest at the bottom is because applicants are trying to get into the \"best\" possible school with their AL score.

For this reason, how can getting into #2 or #3 school be worst than #4 5 or 6.

Please re-read what I wrote. Not everyone that scores AL7 prefers all AL7 schools to AL8+ schools. Why would I put NJC #1 if my preference of schools is HCI, DHS, etc, etc. The reply to my comment was to skip HCI.

NJC is just an AL7 example to illustrate placing 3 AL7 COP schools as #1 #2 #3.

HCI, ACSI and NJC are 3 schools of very different cultures, for discussion purposes, I will not impose my personal preference as to which suits me more. The discussion is about which one will offer a better chance because we know that if #1 fails, #2 and #3 will fail too.

Do we know NJC was only first choice (reported to be so with ACS(I))?

Different people have different risk preferences and different demand preferences. Depending on how much more they like ALX school #1 vs. ALX schools #2 and #3, they may want to go for ALX school #1, even if the odds are knowingly worse and it means they may miss #2 and #3 (no chance to even ballot). You have to consider the relative preferences for #1 vs. #2-#3 and #2-#3 vs. #4.

If the student is truly indifferent between all three options, and prefers all of them to an ALX+1 school, then yes they should pick the one with the highest odds. But picking the one with the highest odds is not always the best decision for everyone.

I would prefer to go with the assumption the choice order of school is rank #1 #2 #3 etc order, instead of #1 #4 #5 etc.

By placing ALX+1 at #4 can be a risky bet too isf for some reason ALX+1 became ALX. A good example is TJC moving from AL9 to AL8 COP

Is any one has past experience or any info that got successful in appeal with MGS?

My DD got AL7 and we are PR. Her dream school is MGS but we couldnt dare enough to keep MGS as first choice because of its indicative AL6.

Now, we appealed to MGS. Hoping to hear good news.

chances may not be high as probably there would be many others with AL7 who also appeal now knowing that the COP is AL7

can always study hard in posted school and try and transfer again later

Earlier someone said need to apply for that school first before one can appeal ?

Or can appeal for all the schools whose COP my PSLE score can meet?

I think the reason why MOE release the posting results so late is to prevent people from applying at as many schools as they want. It would be secondary school application all over again. Yes, people can try as many schools as they like, but remember, schools starts on 2nd Jan next year šŸ™‚

MGS appeal form was one of the more detailed ones I have seen. Based on all of the questions, I feel like applicants should be able to get some sense of all the things the school is looking for/values. Of course, from the outside we don't know the exact algo or weight any particular school puts on all of these factors, so it is still a guess.

Whether the number of other applicants is few or many, all we can do is try if that's what we want. Good luck!
