Hi, how long typically a 7-year old child takes to learn ABRSM grade 3 before progressing to grade 4? Thanks.
That will depend on many factors like your child's motivation level, amount of practice, natural talent, and skill level of the teacher. On the extreme end we have children at very young age of 7-9 passing Grade 8 ABRSM, but it is also not uncommon to hear that a child only attempts Grade 1 after two years of learning piano.

I think generally one year is comfortable duration for most students who practice regularly around 30-45 minutes a day to progress holistically from Grade 3 to 4. Holistic meaning all aspects of learning are progressing parallel, not just the level of pieces being worked on. So if a child can play Grade 4 pieces but can barely sight-read Grade 2 sight-reading materials and can't play even basic scales and arpeggios from memory, is that child truly at Grade 4 level?

I understand that it is important to progress in terms of difficulty in learning piano. But rather than simply asking how long to progress I do feel that a better question to ask ourselves is whether our child is actually growing to appreciate music better and are they enjoying the learning process? Are they also becoming more independent and well-equipped to tackle the difficulties of the latter grades? The answers to these questions would be better assessments if a change of direction/teacher is needed.

Hi, I wasn’t very sure which thread to post this at. Do redirect me if not correct…

It’ll be my dc first time participating in Singapore Raffles piano competition… under junior category. Does anyone have any experience here? How hard generally to get a gold? Any suggestion on repertoire? Dc teacher is suggesting k310 Mozart sonata or Chopin etude 10/12

                TIA!
