Haha. Good way to save also. Spinmop free from buying tissue. I marinate chicken wing with the ntuc fairprice brand of sauce. When needed then defrost to airfry. Need more innovative saving.method
This is my biggest weakness lol..the free gifts/promo..

Last time I seldom eat frozen meat. Started abt around these 2 yrs..very convenient as in can keep but taste wise give and take.. now is mainly buy fresh chicken fm ntuc. The rest mostly from frozen.

I totally agree that one should not underestimate the costs of food.

With $25, yes, you can eat at a coffeeshop, porridge for breakfast, with milo, wonton mee for lunch with teh si, fried rice / hokkien mee for dinner. Even when supplemented with fruits, nutritionally this is completely inadequate and non-ideal - not getting enough whole grains, protein (it is well documented that Singaporean elderly do not consume enough protein), omega 3 etc. The same goes with things like coffee and tea and biscuits - If can afford, I don’t encourage old people to take processed 3 in 1 coffees on a regular basis (how much preservatives and palm oil is in there).

Speaking of cooking at home, a simple boiled Chinese soup (say lotus root with huai san and pork rib) - go count the cost, on top of the 2 hours boiling - it’s not inexpensive. And we can’t really say soup is an extravagance. It’s part of many of our dinners.

There are many other expenses we do not realize and may not have accounted for. Just today, I did aircon servicing, and the bill is in excess of $500 as overhaul is required. Of course this may happen only once in two or three years, but things like appliances have a shelf life, and it’s not surprising to be replacing an appliance every year or other year (some years it may be a simple toaster or kettle, other years it may be a larger expense like a washing machine).

And things like going to the salon, massage to relief certain tensions, bringing grandchildren out etc. We’d all like to be in a situation we don’t have to count or calculate each time we incur an expense.

Ultimately, we will all have to live within our means. Some people feel $3k per couple is enough, and yes, you won’t starve. But yet for others, they feel they need more, and understandably so.

          fish fr market, ntuc etc

chicken wings can just marinate with soy suace, salt, sugar,,pepper etc , air fryer is pretty tasty
lately frozen chicken wings fr supermarket is quite cheap!

Agreed totally. 3k from cpf to cover basic cost and supplement with other income source. 5k per month for a couple should be reasonable. Any savings from unused 5k can go towards contingency like adhoc replacement of household items, massage, nearby destination travel. For expansive travel, dip into savings pool

Yes agree live within our means…I think much or lesser also can survive… if let’s say we don’t have much, then we just live with lesser, bottom line is we still able to live and survive kinda thing.

Ingredients for boiling soup, I used online coupons and buy in big packets then I take some out from each packet when need to cook. When I used slow cooker, I boil like around 6hrs and now that I changed to pressure cooker, I try to use at least 2x of double boiled timer plus maybe abt 20mins open lid cooking. I m always under impression these cookers don’t use alot of electricity…but if cook using electric plate then power consuming le.

Mp, I bought fm online frozen meat..coz I bought a standalone freezer right. We always have salmon, seabass, mutton, pork sliced/ribs, prawn, various marinated meat, fishball/fishcake/french fries/patties/sausages etc basically no scared shortage of food. I can make roast pork anytime just need some time to defrost only.

After reading all the posts here, I have a roughly ideas of the financial position of some registered members here.

For me, I am a cautious person and it is not my usually practice to disclose my family financial status in a forum because there are so many guests could read my post and I am afraid someone with treacherous intention will mark me as their next Scams "Victim".

But this is just my thought only.
