She doesn't understand that HK is committed to obeying her master by adopting the Zero Covid strategy, so what's the point of persuading the HK elderly to vaccinate?

Because the old folks know even if you're double- or triple-vaccinated, you will still be infected (and even die from Covid) and that regardless of their vaccination status, their HK health authority will still have to send the mild young cases and the elderly to Penny's Bay or AsiaWorld Expo for weeks-long quarantine. There's hence absolutely no incentive for them to be vaccinated if the outcome (of being locked up) is gonna be the same.

The old and young will only rest on laurels and resist vaccination, trusting that Carrie Lam and Mainland hcws will continue to block out the virus from their borders and carry out ambush-style lockdowns to contain the virus to keep their community squeaky clean, Covid-free and safe. Dynamic Zero strategy they call it. A country with that sort of strategy will not require high vaccination rate. They have the resources and manpower to bring down each wave.

Moreover, the HK taskforce will turn around and ask if SG's high vaccination rate amongst our elderly population has effectively helped to bring down SG's mortality rate. The answer is No. We now have close to 900, vs HK's 200+ deaths.

I think Hongkong is past the point of no return. The moment they allowed those with mild symptoms to recuperate at home, the infection is not going to stop. Hard lockdown China style for a couple of months might work, but the economic impact would be devastating.

Their mortality rate these few days, well, its 30 deaths yesterday on 20th Feb. And their average recorded cases less than 1000 a day. And it's probably going to get worse.

I also saw gantries at Orchard Central mall.
These gantries are an utter waste of money. Already 90+% of our population have been double-vaccinated. The vaccine pass was useful last year when the MTF wanted to psychologically pressure more elderly and young to be vaccinated by creating those 'bubbles'. But why do we still need those gantries and vaccine pass this year?

Bear in mind some HRNs with C+ persons at home are allowed to enter the malls to dine-in if they test -ve daily. The gantries and vaccine pass can no longer prevent the virus from infecting the malls. Moreover, some QTCs are dental clinics located inside shopping malls and if those sick ones who wish to get a supervised self-ART and have their records input into the HH system, they have to pass through those gantries, no?

Don't know why we need them. To ban those Healing Divide refuseniks or the non-boosted shoppers? Gantry or QR code, these don't stop us from having close to >10k cases.
I agree that they are somewhat temporary if this Covid-19 becomes no longer a threat.
Our current control of Covid19 severity is really the vaccination, vaccination status can expire even with 90% vaccinated, so it is not a % that can remain constant. The gantry is not to stop the cases from going up because it is impossible to control that as we know by now even with lockdowns, it's to stop the cases from being severe.

I expect the gantries can be programmed for other sorts of things too. At some point, they may be repurposed - crowd control for some other reason?

Is dynamic zero covid cases possible, realistic and doable especially for a small country/city?

Most big malls run by large organizations such as Far East considered the cost saving in manpower & bull bargaining to install such gantries. It’s more convenient for them to manage this way then hire extra bands to monitor crowds for safe entry.

I get the feeling tt ppl are probably getting covid fatigue & the desire to take booster wld decline. Ano wave might jock us to be more vigilant? I hope not for the need to be that. But I believe we’re a more complying nation esp with the younger lot who witnessed so many deaths around the world & the benefits of a yearly booster. Maybe MOH might do an poster reminder to keep a healthy family safe to get ppl reminded to do automatically as we wld for our flu jabs?

I’m sure eventually it will be merged into our regular flu shots.

I do not take flu shots at all because cos I do not catch much flu throughout my life.

So I hope these boosters are kept separately, I do not need a 2-in-1 kind of jab.....probably an overkill. :moneyflies: 😂

That's a possible idea if they are not token-dependent. However, there are really not many reasons to have a gantry as malls prefer to welcome patrons and make access easy. BUT!!! If like what Bill Gates predicted.... another pandemic is coming....then it may serve its purpose for a never-ending story to pandemics.... :skeptical:
