My parents with my father is around 90 are not affected by Dementia yet instead they even have a much better memory than me because they play mahjong everyday.
Start playing Sudoku or Mahjong today! Dementia is terrible, I see it in my mum.
MRI shows her brain is shrinking so she is slowly forgetting us. -

You did not read wrongly.
Did I see wrongly? If the children are all successful doctors and had plans to put their parents in ward C, I dare not imagine which ward my children will put me in. Lol.
I stayed in ward C before and didn’t like the experience. When I was 18yo, my grandmother fell in a public toilet, broke her hip, sent to A&E for operation. I cried and begged my aunties/uncles to place grandma in at least ward B2, and I offered to pay using my savings. Luckily my aunties/uncles agreed to put her in ward B. Of cos they didn’t charge me the bills.
I don’t think my hospital plan is expensive. If I want to stay in ward A, I foot my own bills. I don’t intend to make my kids pay my hospital bills. And of cos, if my children drive big continental cars yet put me in ward C, I will be kind of upset. If I need to depend on my kids to foot my hostipal bills, then of cos I have no right to ask for better wards but to keep quiet!!
I witnessed this thro’out SIL’s both parents’ lifetime in/out hospital. The siblings gave both parents very attentive care with the sisters taking turns to visit & attend to her needs with day & night shifts (imagine sitting just on the spare chair beside the bed) and in later years when the sisters were older engaged helpers to provide care.
When I was working with A*Star then & entitled to A ward & fully paid bills. I had once had very high fever just before my birthing & stayed in a A ward but in my moments of need, I cld not seem to get timely attention & was frustrated being alone in a ‘private’ room with nobody to attention to me for long hours till hubby come visit. On my 2nd admission for fever again, I’ve requested for a B1 ward. I can vouch B1 ward so much better for the company & when in need. I once needed attention when nurses & when nobody responded, my neigbour’s hubby went to bring the nurse over. Not too bad having others to bond with.
Having the highest entitlement is not always beneficial all the time. I don’t want to ‘live’ it high when I’ve to be long term in hospitals & subject myself to higher co-pymt nor do I wish to impose higher co-pymt on my kids if they alr hv a family to care for & I ran out of funds (assuming my savings did not meet the higher cost of future inflation). I’ll become their burden. -

No - I've resisted Wordle! Maybe later, but I've enough on my plate for now!
Let me guess...think slmkhoo will take better to Wordle or Quordle! Lol
These are great to keep dementia at bay too. -

Yeah, I think playing mahjong is a good mindsport, just treat it as a game and not gamble. Unfortunately, my mum was determined not to learn how to play no matter how willing I was to teach her. Haiz...

I always remember what someone related to me - a conversation she had with a low wage elderly (I think she's a cleaner). She was lamenting that everyone around her has left, except her and she has to keep working to keep herself alive....think she was in her 70s
My grandmother's experience: first her husband died, then her remaining friends died, and she was the last one left in her generation. Her grandkids grew up, and she forgot who they were (because of dementia). She had several great-grandkids by the time she died, but she never knew that they were hers. -

It doesnt take up a lot of time, but professional wordsmiths might find it too easy. I had a go once or twice but lost interest after a while. It’s a bit like Mastermind but with letters instead of colours.

My husband is playing both Wordle and Word-leh (the Singlish version). One daughter is playing Wordle. The other daughter isn't interested. I'm just not a very \"game\" person.

The key point is keep our self n minds active
As for dementia, I foresee myself working or at least ksp ing in my 60s. So far no dementia history in family but I m a forgetful person so there may be risk.
But stroke can cause dementia too, our late aunt suffered this. So does not mean that active mind or play mahjong keep dementia away. It’s still abt keeping cholesterol , bp in healthy range
Dementia people has good memory of the long deep past , but cannot remember things that just happen a while ago. My mil plays 4d Diligently, insist to cook almost daily meals for family , in her 80s - this keep her mind n mental math good … hahaha , sometimes a bit “ 4d gila”
