Ukraine matters. That is why its independence is important to the rest of the world.[/i]
This is a view that sums up the reason for the start of the war:
….. because I think NATO should be dissolved. NATO was to counter the Warsaw Pact which dissolved more than 30 Years ago. So why not signal we have stopped carrying a grudge for the Cold War and let NATO go too.
Warsaw Pact is a defence treaty between the Soviet Union and seven other Eastern Bloc socialist republics of Central and Eastern Europe in May 1955. The Warsaw Pact was created in reaction to the integration of West Germany into NATO.
“….Putin accused NATO of deceiving Russia by giving assurances in the 1990s that it would not expand “an inch to the East” — promises made to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev during negotiations between the West and the Soviet Union over German unification, the Russian leader said.”
“… former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Steven Pifer said in an essay, “Western leaders never pledged not to enlarge NATO…”
Crimea’s Sevastopol naval port, at southern Ukraine, is the only warm water naval port accessible by Russia. Russia other naval ports’ water freeze up during winter months, rendering them not operational.
That could be the reason Russian attacks now, and not wait till Ukraine joins NATO - higher risk of a WW3 -
Happy Birthday to Esteema

My hubby’s thoughts:
If Russia wins in Ukraine (most likely will), Putin’s ego will be inflated .
Their next target will be next door neighbor, China, with whom they share the world’s longest land border and a very troubled history.
And could China lose to Russia? Who knows, possible… because DH said 中国的汉奸一大堆. -
If we were to face a war, nobody is going to help us.
-
Read the people there seems to be united… the country must have done something right I guess…
-
Guess our country should have defence in place..plus mobilise all residents here would give us more than 3 million strength number of adults .. weak and strong included

Recently I did a telephone survey with MINDEF. Asked if I will stay behind to fight war if Singapore enters into one. I said I will run far far!!
Asked if I will allow my hubby (and brothers) stay behind to fight war, I couldn’t answer that cos I know my hubby will although I hope he will run with me lah. -

You are right.

On the otherhand, we hope our husband, brothers and sons to leave with us.
Well, the best is to prevent this situation from happening at all cost.
Pretty windy at my place and enjoying the good weather now. -
Happy Belated Birthday Esteema!
May Ukraine ride on your blessings to get through this without much damage. It’s just sad that things have come to such a stage due to pride more than security reasons.
US has pledged US350m to help them in ammunition which the President said, "I need ammunition, not a ride" when he was offered to be evacuated from Ukr.
Whatever it is, it would be good if they can sit down like gentlemen and sort this out over a table instead of over a tank.
