Yes since my girls time. I recalled they score full marks for mini tests like vocab and typical paper 2 questions but when EOY came, their results drop below 85 at P3 due mainly to pass in oral and compo only. I panicked and send them to small group chinese tuition under the tutelage of a PRC tutor in P4 as I realised I have been a lousy chinese tchr to them.
You saw 85% already panicked and sent your kid to tuition, then how should my friend feel with 34/100? 😂

According to my friend, she felt that mini tests questions were easier and less in deep than EOY questions. Plus she described her son as one who will “return” everything to the teacher immediately after the test type. 😂

I feel that having mid year exam has its pros that is, students can revise what they have learnt for 1st half of the year.

Yah language is not something that can be taught in-house esp if the parents are not good either. So the below 85 at P3 seems like a wake-up call to outsource to professional sooner than later. In the end, I seemed to have recouped my investment costs as the cost of tuition was lower than the ESIS award for 6y hahahaha.....

Nah. Lots of careless and mindless mistakes. Generally lack focus.
TBH. Was quite happy that the kid fail.
Tbh when my eldest P6 Maths CA1 got lowest in class (72/100), it was also a wake-up call for me....... to get her to do her best for her NSG in April, dsa in July/aug (during prelims) and then to re-focus on psle after prelims.....it was indeed a tough P6 year...

P5 is an adjustment year, especially for Math & English (certain components) as there is a big leap to PSLE requirements.

Good that you now know which specific area needs improvement. Good for kid to be aware too. There is still time to tweak & refine study processes / exam skills further.

And oh btw if happened to be 45%, it’s as good as 64% under the AL system

I tend to have a feeling my child is at the base in her class… if go by guideline of the previous psle marks, she is at verge of saying bye bye to affiliation…so when receiving the invitation for Math, the first thing that comes to my mind was all students getting the msg is it.

No leh, my son never received such invitations (Math or Science) and he is around middle of the cohort (never failed). Maybe his school quota is less? Only top 2 classes some invited…

She gungho to take up the challenge but only attend the few days free lessons arranged and went for actual..and seems once you accepted the subsequent yrs till P6 will be automatic, I feel regardless the results.

The following gives more explanation, it is not just about removing mid yr exams.
                    https://www.channelnewsasia.com/commentary/mid-year-exams-removal-anxiety-parents-more-stress-2557851
Tks for sharing. So the scrapping of MYE is after years of observing good outcomes from “assess for learning” method.

You mean all the students from top 2 classes will get invitation?
