All About Ballet

Any one has reviews of Taneo Dance Academy or anyone’s DD is in jazz dance class? I am looking to expose my girl to Jazz class as she is doing ballet now but somehow I think her flair and interest is in something more upbeat . But of course ballet technique is good for her foundation so she is still learning. She is 6 this year.


Appreciate any recommendations for jazz dance classes.

Hi, my girl is currently in P2, she has done a few genres of dance and for ballet, she is taking RAD and had tried both CC n dancepointe before. She performs well in class but I feel the current school doesnt suit her for we are looking to progress her via DSA dance route. I think I might have to move her to another school which can help her better along that line. Any recommendations for such school or rather any recommended teachers that can help to bring out the best in her and for more competition opportunities? Also, if she is doing Grade 2 now, is it too slow to meet the min Grade 5 requirement by P5?

Take a look at the dsa requirements for the schools this year. Pre covid, the schools used to ask for grade 5 but that has changed in the last two years. They no longer ask for grade 5. SOTA doesn’t even ask for certificates or competitions but pick candidates for audition based on the solo dance portfolio that was sent in. My advice is go with a ballet school that can help you with the dsa preparation.

dear mummies, my girl started learning ballet since N1 and now in P1. she wasn’t keen to take the exams for pre-primary so i didn’t register her for the RAD exams and prep classes. some of her peers since N1 took the RAD exams earlier on this year has moved to the grade 1 class. I am not sure if i should let her take exams next round so that she can move up to the grade class. i have no idea about the RAD grading and is it true that if she doesn’t take the exams, she will not progress to the grade class? please advise. thanks

Hi Swissclover,

Most dance school’s would require students to take the exam before advancing to the next grade. This is very important if your DD intends to DSA. She needs to reach Grade 5 in order to do so. You should get your daughter to take the exam. However, if she is not keen, don’t force her - let her dance recreationally.

As parent and educator myself, this is my first post on a school. I am appalled by my experience. :roll:


I will not recommend parents whose children are not 'gifted' in dance/ballet to send their children to Trudance. At least not for serious ballet. For fun, its probably ok.

My dd likes ballet, but we stopped during PSLE year. She's also not one of those talented ones (how many of us are). But she asks to go for Ballet lessons in Sec 1.

Initially, dd was at Dancepoint before we too the break. After, due to timing and location, I thought I could try out Trudance Singapore. Initially, all was quite smooth. After ONE year, I checked in with the teacher about dd progress and I was greeted with the happy news that dd was going to be promoted to the next grade too. We arranged for exams and all.

In a short 3months later, :yikes: I was informed dd was not good enough. I questioned why there is such sudden drop in performance.

After checking with dd and teacher, my conclusion was that the teacher was not watching my dd closely throughout the 1year 5months. As an educator, I dont beleive there can be such DRASTIC change in performance (not for teenagers whose motor skills are established). I tried to feedback to the Management team, but they didnt allow me to elaborate and brush me off. :nunchuk:

I did look here for Trudance reviews previously but didnt find much infor, so I thought this may come useful to parents.

My daughter has been doing Tiny Tots Ballet at a Community Club. I dont plan to spend too much on that because she is still exploring and not expertised into Grade 1 Grade 2 per se. I couldn’t find any Tiny Tots Ballet around Bukit timah where we will be moving, can anyone recommend a cheap option? Just ballet and fun! No need for serious drills. A normal CC ballet is only $10 which i quite fancy! Thanks

Any idea how to do ballet bun for exam? I always bun her hair for normal classes but not sure if exam will have some standard. The teacher has said parents need to bun and not the teacher. Please help if you have any idea.

Thanks! Yes finally the teacher helped during exam day to make sure all children are alright. ️️️
