My girl is in P2 CHIJ (Katong). I am a โ€˜bochapโ€™ mum and she copes well in school, but it could be more to her character, I thinkโ€ฆI like the school, new and organise.

Might need to switch school as I will need to shift house to be near ACS for my boy in 2-3 years time, but she really like the school. I still have time to think.

        Hi,
I am thinking of sending my daughter to CHIJ (Toa Payoh), I am an old girl or PLMGS (I am Methodist).
I am not too concerned about their results but I am wondering:

What the atmosphere at the schools are like? Peaceful and positive or more serious and academic-oriented?
Do the girls have to take home homework everyday?
At Primary 1, are there any CAs or SAs?
        Is CCA complulsory?

I have great memories from my time at CHIJ and think the school had quite an influence on how I turned out. But I realise that was some time ago, things may have changed. If anyone has daughters there, please share ๐Ÿ™‚ I am thinking of PLMGS because of my affiliation to the church but have little idea what the school's like. Thanks a lot!

My elder gal is in P1 this year..so far so good. She likes the teachers and the school..very little homework..mainly coloring work. If I asked her what did she do in school today, she will say play and talk to friends and teachers. I believe they involve of interactive games in classes.

I think at term 1, they are still pretty relaxing..weekly spelling (10 words based on the STELLAR topic of the week) and HYPY ting xie. And they have this independant task list (teacher will give them a list of task to do - the gals will do it on own time own target but must complete within the week and in school) - usu penmanship. I like the idea of independant task - train the gals to be initiative, and proper time management.

For Term 1, there is no CA..there will be a SA at end of Term 2. Term 1, they will assess the language standard of the students - Chinese and English and group them into different levels. I think for those weaker students, the teachers will provide remedial and extra assistance. As I have yet to hear anything from the school, I presume they are still monitor the progress and assessing the girls. I feel that they spend more time in languages than in Mathematics..Eg the time table allocation for English:Chinese:Maths = 3:2:1. But that is at P1 level, not sure abt P2 or other levels. I was told that streaming at end of P2 is, however, based on Maths result.

For non-academic subjects, apart from the usual ethics, social studies, art and craft etc, they have PE, music and dance and gym - thrice a week. ECA is compulsory only from P3 onwards. Extra enrichments like Ballet, chinese S&D is not compulsory, but if yr kids show special talent in ballet/gym/choir, they are happy to let yr kids participate. They will be providing computer typing lesson 2nd half of the year.

The main reason why I enrolled my gal in this school is the distance and plus the fact that it is not too academic focus. I am a lazy mother, do not want to stress myself and my gals on the academic area - just wanna them to be happy and be confidence of themselves. Hopefully I make the right decisions in selecting the school.

hi, i wanna share my thoughts about which CHIJ to send our daughter regardless if we have the 2nd kid.

when we think primary school, we also think affiliation to secondary. so for eg - if we go OLGC, the secondary would be SJC.
If we choose SN, TP or KC, likelihood is our girl will continue to remain in same premise.
unless you wouldnt mind the kid traveling a bit during Sec 1, but i m sure the activities are unlikely to be lesser than primary. i used to have my primary and secondary just walking distant from my flat so i know the blessings.
so do consider also the secondary school factor when choosing which primary school.

I studied at St. Theresa's Convent Primary 1-6 (phased out already) and Secondary. Which CHIJ primary school can I put my daughter in under parent and child affiliation?

should be CHIJ Kellock and affiliation is CHIJ St Theresa. You can check their websites.

I would like to send my daughter to CHIJ (TP) as well. Called the school yesterday and was told that for Phase 2B beyond 2km, it is like 15 applicants vs 1 vacancy. Now I have to consider CHIJ (Katong). I really hope it is good.

Both my girls are in CHIJ Kellock. Personally I feel that it is impt to look for a Pri School with Affirmation to Sec and JC. The reason is that it will require a very min PSLE score to get into the Express Stream of the Affinated Seconary school.

I feel less stress in a way and also I dont really stress my girls too much thinking that there is a backup plan.
