Personally I have seen kids from both CH and ACS from where I live. Kids from CH are more rowdy and less polite than those from ACS. I spoke to some mommies about this too and they observed the same. Some also said that it is perhaps the values of ACS that is the major contribution to this. I am not sure if it this is true but This is just what I have experienced so far but it doesn’t necessarily means all of them are the same.

If you compare two boys’ schools with similar SES, the behavior of the boys are likely to be similar. You are going to get similar proportion of well-behaved boys and naughty boys. For ACS and CHS, their primary schools kids are definitely not that far apart in terms of SES, behavior etc.

The only thing to consider at this point, apart from the phases and distance priority, is their relative advantages. ACSJ and ACSP can provide close to a 100% safe passage to their secondary section in either ACS or ACS BR since their COP for affiliated students are fairly generous. On the other hand, CHS COP at AL12, will be challenging for majority of the students.

CHS status as a SAP school is appealing to those who want to be exposed to a higher level of Chinese language, culture and heritage. However, it can be somewhat of a double edged sword as Zeal mummy alluded to. If the kid has no interest in Chinese, or if his foundation is weak, he’s going to struggle with the demands of the HCL for at least the first 4 years.

I have multiple properties and thinking which address to activate. These two schools seems to be balloting from 2A that is what I understood.

I'm just curious here. Is it possible to look at the odds of each Phase?

Ballot for ACS at Phase 2B and CHS at 2C, depending on which has better odds.

Are you allowed to change home address for Phase 2B to 2C?

Phase 2B (restrictive audience) will definitely have better odds at Phase 2C (free for all).

Here are the 2 school's history from 2006.

Observe Catholic High's Phase 2C places. In all the years, it has never gone above 36. In the recent 3 years, it is at 21, probably because some parent withdrew their kid from earlier Phases.

Now observe ACS Primary's Phase 2C places. It is about the same, maybe slightly more relaxed in the recent years, but it has never gone higher than 39.

The interesting thing this year is that Phase 2C will have a minimum of 40 places. But that comes at the expense of earlier Phase 2A and 2B phases. Will it really be more relaxed for parents??

I think even more will apply for Phase 2C on top of those that tried in earlier Phases and failed. I think it will take some years before we reach another equilibrium with this 40 Phase 2C seats thingy. In the meantime, I wish all those who are going for either school the best of luck.

Yeah, most likely will not go for Catholic High. Love our neighbourhood and routines too much. We've made so many good friends at son's preschools and they are all going to nearby schools. Hard to give up their weekly picnics, sports games and study sessions where they all come home happy (despite the fights) all the time. Must admit giving up SAP school culture before even trying is a hard one to stomach, but again there's the high risk and can't have it all in life factor have somehow given us some peace with our decision

Oh what a coincidence. So does that mean you will not go for Cat High in the end? We are Catholic too but my son is not that into Chinese Language.

My husband is a former student of St Gabriel Pri. Should we enter St Gabriel via 2A or try our luck at Maris Stella/St Andrew’s via 2C where we stay <1km?

Leaning towards SAJS because of the affiliation but don’t know if it is worth the risk to ballot anot…

What would you all do? Appreciate any comments!

St Gabriel's is a shoo-in for Phase 2A even with reduced places in Phase 2A. Not balloting at all. Why not just take St Gabriel's at Phase 2A first, and then monitor the take-up rate at Phase 2C for Maris Stella or St Andrew's to make your final decision?

Is it difficult to withdraw my 2A seat during 2C exercise? Will MOE display the take up rate for 2C at the end of every day?

It should be easier to do it now since everything is computerized. Last time, husband and wife has to coordinate so that one physically deregisters while the other registers, all within 1 hour For Phase 2C, MOE updates the numbers at the end of each day. Phase 2C takes 3 days. The numbers are usually not updated on the 3rd day until after the decision on which school needs balloting.
