Wow! Where is the House of Hanover based? How did Germany lose its monarchy?
Technically, a Queen Consort is Queen… but Camilla is very unlikely to be named Queen because it’s going to be a sensitive topic
(A consort of the Queen, however, will never be King)
Much like the Prince of Wales spouse is supposed to be made the Princess of Wales but Camilla didn’t take over from Diana and was named Duchess of Cornwall instead.
I’m not a Royal fan. I’m just interested in European history, especially the period between the Renaissance (14th C) and start of modernity (19th C). Because of their influences, and the many wars / fights that they had started, the Royal houses in Europe were a major part of that history.
Even in “modern times”, e.g. The Great War, aka WWI, is basically a family affair. In WWII, Prince Philip is on the side of UK, but the rest of his family (his 4 sisters) are part of the German royalty. FWIW, the House of Windsor (i.e. the house of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles) originated from the the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, which is a part of the House of Hanover, the royal house of German.
If you can bring your kids on a historical tour of Europe, where would you go? -

Sorry... but I'm intrigued. This is not necessary \"school history\"... but more like \"royal gossip\"

I think Prince Philip will never be king. I think it will more likely be his son Prince William taking the throne after the Queen finally expires... -

Oof I think Princess Kate is a little too perfect for my tastes, I like the environmentally friendly Prince Charles and even the flawed Megan Markle (she is more relatable!) Of course above all this fray is Queen E... who can not help but love her? I believe the King's Speech is about her father, King Edward, who had a stutter?

No, her father should be King George VI.

King Edward VIII who has abdicated in 1936 - is the brother of King George VI. -

Germany lost its monarchy in the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Revolution_of_1918%E2%80%931919 in 1919. The failure of the Germans' war efforts in The Great War contributed to the monarchy's collapse.

The House of Hanover is still around... the current head is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Ernst_August_of_Hanover_%28born_1954%29. They aren't really based anywhere in particular since their title are merely historical and hereditary. Likewise, even though France is no longer a monarchy, the Royal Houses of France such as the House of Orléans and House of Bourbon (also one of the Royal Houses of Spain) are still around. So you never know... one day, these Houses may get to play the Game of Thrones again.
I don't think it's easy to curate a 'historical tour'. There are a few hundred years of history everywhere you go (well, almost) so it's really what you fancy. Otherwise, it may not have any meaning to you at all. For example, I like the Renaissance. Hence, places like Rome, Florence and Venice will be very interesting for me but I am not sure buildings, paintings and open squares will hold the same appeal to my wife and kids

They will at least put him on the throne for a while... -

Some people dont like Florence but that's because they are not crazy about the Uffizzi. I have been there twice, mostly to see the Carravaggios, but also because it was the home of the Medicis, the finance behind the Renaissance. Also, it looks closest to an actual medieval city

The Houses and characters in the \"A Song of Ice and Fire\" are loosely based on real world Houses and people. Even some of the storylines are influenced by historical events. The best known example: the War of the Five Kings in the book / show is influenced by the War of the Roses fought between the House of Lancaster and the House of York.
House Stark - House of York.
House Lannister - House of Lancaster.
The characters inspired by historical figures:
Aerys, the Mad King - Henry VI of England
Ned Stark - Richard, Duke of York
Tywin Lannister - Edward I of England -

Well actually your wife and kids would love Rome and Venice, which are some of the greatest cities for shopping and general sightseeing. You just have to watch little kids around the canals! Florence has less shopping. But your wife and kids can take day trips to Pisa or Siena while you hang out with David in the Accademia Gallery, or the Renaissance masters in the Uffizzi. :grphug:
