A lot hv sadly changed - Std had declined, many bz/shops hv closed, cost hv gone up, many living on the streets & begging. We were very disappointed most fried food such as char kway teow, fried oyster & carrot cake stalls are using low grade oil except for the chendol quality still delish. We moved to restaurant food but as usual I’m affected by MSG. It’s very different even from 6-7 years back when we brought my kids & in-laws there. Even the Chinese cookies (马蹄酥, dao sar piah) hv lost its high quality.

Same same fir some other parts of M’sia it seems many 老潮牌 either closed or their quality had declined. Heard many businesses gone bust during covid fr lack of both tourist & locals during lockdown. Many shops in Jonker Street hv closed. In addition, they’ve difficulties finding good staff after letting go old ones during the lockdown.

We visited a peranakan restaurant previously touted by bloggers but was turned off by their lackluster attitude & the atas Tai Tai serving us who handed us the menu earlier, made a sudden announcement when we were ready to order, that her prices had increased by 15% but had no time to update her 4-page menu. We walked out but blessed thereafter with ano Peranakan restaurant that received us warmly & we made many choices which turn out to be sedap!

Guess only in KL tourists hv rebounded just as the supporting F&B hv sprang up to catch the coming crowd.

DH figures it’ll either take a year or two before they get back on track, if at all.
Oh that's not nice. Prices going up so fast that they cannot keep up arh. Usually outside food difficult to avoid msg.

I ate 1 da dabao the other day..I was feeling so thirsty that I have to open up a can of beer (free from other purchase) to go with ice.

Beer? You can drink beer! I used to drink many years ago until I drank at home once upon a time and then I swear I would never touch any alcoholic drink. I believe because I don't drink and not a sweet teeth (I try not to take any white sugar), I able to maintain my weight at 57 Kg for more than 20 years even I am having buffet every week. 🕺

Try carrying water with you when you go out? I always bring a small (reusable) bottle of water with me unless I'm only going out for a quick errand. Saves money and calories! If really caught without, we will buy water at a supermarket (if there is one nearby) as it's much cheaper than going to a drinks stall to buy.

Yes we always carry water bottles. I even bring my own coffee if need to be outside for sometime. Go outside for breakfast and coffee not so often nowadays.

Does alcohol make you put on weight more than indulgence in food? I have been drinking quite regularly at home with hubs and I don't think my weight gain is from alcohol.

The one time I put on weight uncontrollably (apart fm weight gained fm pregnancy which was mild when compared to it)..was to drink 1 can of beer+eat alot of fried snacks at night after everyone is sleeping.. for me then was those muruku stuff (1 big packet) every night, for many months coz I was undergoing hurting moment from a close family member..then saw weight up few kg. Normal drinking session I don't see noticeable weight gain.

To add..that period changed my whole life.. after dd1 I was back to my 53kg. Then comes that dark period.. before preggy with dd2 I tried to lose weight to below 60kg ..now yoyo btw 60 to 62kg

Yeah late night snacks hurts but so satisfying when also paired with beer and movie night at home.
When I had dd1, I put on 15kg all weight came to me as dd1 was born small. When I had dd2/3, I put on 14kg with stricter diet and I was able to lose the post natal weight quite quickly. Now put on 2kg easily lol......

When we say put on weight just after giving birth, don't count de. After given birth, I still remember the big shock when I weighed myself in hospital on discharge day..i was so confused. My weight 0.5kg more than when checked in to give birth. Then at home, shedding like 1-1.5kg a day due to water retention. I was on drip in hospital wonder if that was the reason. I think our body very different..very bloated.

I think our metabolic rate slower now. I just dont have the determination/very bochap in losing those weight. I don't control what put into my mouth now.
